So, he taught me how through brutal
Remarks and more brutal hits
But I've always firmly believed
I would not need to defend myself
From a man, that I would succeed
And find myself a man to treat me right
He should have told me, "This is how
You defend yourself from society."
Or, maybe he should've just held me
As I failed to defend myself
And maybe this must be why
Today, I vow to be a woman
Who teaches her child how to defend
Herself from men and this vile society
But more so, a woman who caresses
Her child when they are unable
To defend themselves from a man
A woman, even the child of the two
