How they met from H's perspective

For an aspiring physical therapist, she didn't seem very sure of herself, and compared to his doctor, this girl, in her oversized jumper and half-damp hair, looked like... well, not a doctor. Her intentions seemed in the right place, but I still wasn't in the best mood, and I didn't exactly feel like conversing more than I had to today.

I went to tell her that we would be just fine, but Mitch piped up behind me. "Oh thank God. Yes. Please help this idiot, we have no idea what we're doing."

I turned back towards Mitch to glare at him, but he only gave me a helpless shrug. So much for minimal human interaction today. Turning towards the girl again, I peered up at where she was still standing at our table. "If you don't mind."

She grinned, and I was struck by the way it lit up her entire face. It was an honest smile, one Harry had to fight a sudden urge to return. Were her eyes that bright before? "Oh, it's not a problem at all," she told him.

Her grin widened the tiniest bit, and it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, a sensation I hadn't felt in a while, so much so that it surprised me a little. I pulled out one of the empty chairs at our table. "You can sit down."

"Oh thanks," she said as she moved towards the chair I had offered her. As she moved to sit down, though, her short hair bouncing some with her movement, she stopped. "You don't have any ACE bandage?"

What the hell was that? Mitch gave me a look like he was very much enjoying this exchange, his face looking at me like I was an idiot. I tried to hide the embarrassment that stirred up inside me. I didn't know why, but I didn't want to come off as foolish in front of her. "I didn't know I needed it. No one mentioned it to me."

"I mean, it's not a huge deal, I guess. If you're not particularly attached to the hair on your arm and wrist, that is."

Once more, I'd been left speechless by this person. She'd only been standing here for less than five minutes, and yet I was already struck dumb by her multiple times. I didn't have to look to know that Mitch was currently having the time of his life, not having expected such entertainment this early in the day.

Upon reading the look on my face, the young woman continued. "What I'm trying to say is that taking the tape off at the end of the day is going to hurt like a bitch if there's nothing between it and your skin."

My eyes widened a little. Would that actually happen? I thought. Why would my doctor give me just the tape if that was going to be the outcome? Who was the real idiot here?

"Look, I have some ACE bandage in my car. I can wrap it outside, or I can grab it and come back?"

This certainly wasn't how I expected my morning to go, but I was in it now, and I wanted to see this small encounter through. Plus, she intrigued me. "No, I can go out to your car."

"Awesome! Look, it was nice meeting you, but I gotta go. You guys have fun," Mitch said before I or the girl could get another word in. He got up from the table, shook the girl's hand, and came over to me.

"I'll see you later, man," Mitch said, patting me on the back. Then, he leaned down and spoke loud enough so that only I could hear him. "Try not to make an absolute dick of yourself in front of her, alright?"

Then he was gone. I watched as Mitch walked away, a little surprised that he'd left me here at all. I liked to think I was a friendly person, nice even, but sometimes it took a little time for me to warm up to people. I couldn't do anything about it now, though, so I stood up from the table to follow the girl out to her car.

"Mitch, the little shit, left me with the bill," I said, fishing my wallet out of my back pocket and pulling out a few bills to pay for Mitch's and my food. Smiling a little at her, I gestured out in front of me. "Lead the way."
