Authors note: this is the first official chapter so hopefully this is not too bad I've been working on this for a while. Her name is going to be Jada.
Jada's POV
April 25, 2020
It had been six weeks since I gave birth to my daughter, and every day I found another reason to fall in love with her. Her tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and little giggles made every exhausting night worth it. She was the best thing that had ever happened to me.
The only thing I hated was being stuck inside.
Ever since the pandemic started, my mom insisted that I only leave the house if it was absolutely necessary. Doctor's appointments were one thing, but everything else could wait. As much as I missed going out, I knew she was right. My daughter's health came first.
After feeding her, I gently laid her in her crib. She stretched, let out a tiny yawn, and drifted back to sleep.
I smiled before grabbing my phone.
Instagram had become my favorite way to pass the time. I scrolled through pictures of friends, recipes, and funny quarantine memes until one post instantly caught my attention.
Justin Bieber.
The biggest pop star in the world had just uploaded a selfie.
No caption.
Just that crooked smile that had millions of fans talking.
Including me.
I couldn't help but smile as I tapped the heart.
I'd been a fan for years. His music had helped me through some of the hardest times in my life. Meeting him was something I'd dreamed about countless times, but dreams didn't usually come true.
Especially not for someone like me.
I set my phone down and headed into the kitchen, settling for a bowl of strawberries before wandering through the house.
My brothers were arguing over a video game in the living room, my younger sister was focused on homework, and my mom was busy answering emails on her laptop.
Everything felt normal.
Quiet.
Predictable.
After checking on my daughter one more time, I returned to my room, opened my laptop, and started a movie I'd already seen more times than I could count.
Somewhere around the halfway point, my eyes grew heavy.
I fell asleep.
The buzzing of my phone startled me awake.
Still groggy, I reached across the bed and squinted at the screen.
Unknown Number — California
Probably another spam call.
I answered anyway.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Jada?"
His voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it.
"Yeah... who's this?"
"Hi, Jada. This is JustinBieber."
I sat upright.
"...Excuse me?"
He laughed softly.
"I know this probably sounds unbelievable, but I'm calling because you entered the Hope Together charity challenge."
I blinked.
"I wanted to personally congratulate you. You were selected as this year's grand prize winner."
My brain completely froze.
There was no way.
I had donated a few times because I believed in the cause, but I never expected to win anything.
"I'm sorry," I said with a nervous laugh. "Is this a prank?"
"I promise it isn't," he replied. "I figured calling first would be better than showing up at your house without warning. Especially with everything going on right now."
That actually sounded... thoughtful.
"You'll be receiving the official details from my team soon," he continued. "But I wanted to be the one to tell you. Congratulations, Jada. I can't wait to meet you."
"T-Thank you."
"It was nice talking to you. Have a great day."
"You too."
The call ended.
I stared at my phone for several seconds.
Then I looked at the call history.
Unknown California number.
My heart started pounding.
"...Wait."
I shot up from my bed.
"I actually won?"
