"I'll call daddy and we'll sort all of this out. I promise," (22)

"What does that mean?"

"That means there was nothing wrong with this company from the get-go but its shares are being sold off to God-knows-who. It's almost as if the sellers know something we don't,"

"What could they have known to sell their profitable shares to someone else?" Brynne wondered if this was what kept Micah up most nights. His job was to see that the shares of the companies under his care are being distributed and traded safely so that the company could stay afloat on the stock market.

Micah was quiet for a while. He was now deep in thought and that worried Brynne. She didn't like to see him so uncomfortable.

Just then, there was a knock on his door. Micah pressed a button under his desk to open the door for whoever was on the other side.

Two men walked in and immediately showed their badges. "Mr. Daniels, we're Detective James and Detective Nelson."

"What can I do for you, detective?" Micah stood from his chair.

"You can come with us. You're under arrest for illegal insider trading," They presented some handcuffs.

"What!" Brynne couldn't believe what she was hearing. She looked at Micah and he seemed calmer than she thought he would be. How could he be so calm?

"What's going on here?" Brynne stepped in between Micah and the detectives.

"Miss, please don't obstruct our job."

"I'm not moving until you explain to me what you just said."

"Miss, please move," the second one, detective Nelson said. He was younger and slimmer than detective James but he seemed just as mean.

"By law you cannot force me to move. Mr. Daniels has a right to an explanation about this ludicrous accusation." Brynne was adamant about not moving. Whatever was going on, she was sure Micah didn't do it.

"Brynne, it's okay," Micah tried to diffuse the situation.

"No it's not. Detective James? As part of Mr. Daniels' legal team, I'm waiting for that explanation,"

The detective sighed before explaining.

"Mr. Daniels has been accused of sharing information about Hans&Olsen Financial Corporation to shareholders who have since then sold all of their shares. As of yesterday, Hans&Olsen have been under fire due to charges of embezzlement and sexual harassment of employees. Their stocks have plummeted by 10% as of this morning and the shareholders have lost an average of fifteen thousand dollars."

Brynne was speechless. All of this happened in the span of a day. What did this mean for Micah? She turned around to him. "Don't answer anything, got it? I'll call daddy and we'll sort all of this out. I promise,"

Micah gave her a barely-there smile. The moment it clicked for him that it was insider trading was the moment the detectives came knocking. He never expected that he would have to be the scapegoat for this but he accepted it because he knew exactly who orchestrated this— but he refused to say it to Brynne. The less she knew, the less she was involved with these people.

"Let's go," one of the detectives held up the handcuffs.

"Please, there's no need for that. He will go willingly." Brynne explained to them.

As soon as Micah walked away with those detectives, she called her father. If they were going to accuse Micah of something like this then it was time to put this place under an investigation. She still remembered when one of the FBI agents from the Broken Wings case told her to call anytime.

Just as she was forming a plan in her head to help Micah, she saw Jordan walk pass the office. She followed after him to find him watching from the large window facing the street, as the detectives escorted Micah out of the building.

Jordan. Her eyes narrowed.
