James stared, Oh God did he stare. His favourite pastime, Sirius noted, was staring at the stubborn red head who had come to develop very strong feelings for him. Very strong feelings of hatred. Sirius shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips as he watched his best friend narrow his eyes in concentration when burning holes into the back of Lily Evans' head.
Beside him Remus Lupin, the father of the marauders sighed and muttered something about an unhealthy obsession. Well, Sirius thought, no need in stating the obvious was there? The obvious being that James Potter, the troublemaker of the marauders was hopelessly in love with Lily Evans. At times Sirius black couldn't help but feel a twinge of pity for his best friend of four years. But that small speck disappeared when James repeatedly ignored all of their advice.
James Potter's unrequited infatuation was sort of the reason Sirius distanced himself from love. Distanced himself from anything that would make him feel. After all, is the pain and the humility all even worth it in the end?
Sirius thought he already had his answer. After all Lily Evans had made it blatantly obvious that she didn't want anything to do with the gryffindor seeker. But then one day Remus walked into the common room and plopped down on his favorite chair. And instead of picking up his book he faced Sirius, a rare mischievous glint shining in his eyes. It was then Remus burst in stating that the redhead that James had spent his entire time at Hogwarts fawning over, was finally starting to fancy him back.
It was safe to say that sirius' eyebrows flew off from his forehead, a mysterious smirk forming on his lips. Immediately though, his best friend shut him down as if he could read his mind. His reasoning had something to do with nature taking its course. 'Screw nature' thought sirius. He wanted his best friend to get the girl of his dreams already. But instead, he pouted and stared at Lily Evans and slowly realised that Moony was right. Evans did fancy Potter. Sirius cackled. It was evident in her blushes, and stutters, and her not so subtle ogling sessions.
Has the world ended? Sirius' thoughts remained solely on his daydreams for the next week and a half. Most of them involved locking the two heads in a broom closet and let sexual tension do the rest, but of course every time he tried to do something Remus would intervene and he'd end up just sitting there with a pout on his face and giving Remus subtle glares and insults. Of course the marauders had no idea what subtlety was if they did then perhaps James would be better at hiding his love for Evans. A day after this back and forth between Sirius and Remus began, James grew extensively concerned, mainly because the two had never fought save from Remus acting like a parent.
Privately, which isn't a word normally used in the context of the four brothers, James had sat down with Sirius and tried to act like a therapist, gently trying to wheedle out the reason for this newest and most absurd disagreement between the two. It was safe to say that late at night in the common room both Remus and Sirius had a tough time controlling their laughter when recounting their therapy session.
