It all began on a Tuesday night.
As per usual, Adrien had grown tired of his extremely busy life. With just a few words, his model life turned into a free and exciting life. Chat Noir was out and about. Sure, he was watching over the town, but he didn't have a single care in the world.
That's when he saw Nino.
Chat instantly dropped down and hid behind a tree. He was getting ready to scare the boy, but painful sobs stopped him.
"It's okay, Nino. I understand," Alya rubbed circles on the crying boy's back. "You don't have to be upset."
He took deep breaths. "I know, I know. But I still feel bad. I really like hanging out with you."
Chuckling, the girl shook her head. "We can still hang out, you big doofus."
"Yeah?" Nino asked gently. "You mean it?"
"Of course, Nino." Alya hugged him tightly. "I'm gonna go home now... But please get home safe, okay? Call me when you get home."
He nodded as she walked away. He took slow, deep breaths as he leaned back on the bench. Chat took this opportunity to sneak up. He sat next to Nino and looked over at him.
"Hey dude! What are you doing all alone late at night?" Chat asked.
Nino tried his best to hide the fact that he had been crying, but it was no use. "Ah, hey Chat Noir. Um... I just broke up with my girlfriend. Sorry if I look like a mess." He tried to laugh as a way of covering up his embarrassment.
Chat tilted his head. Why would he break up with Alya? They seemed so happy together. "Huh. Why did you do that?"
This caused the fragile boy to start crying again. Chat winced and put his hand on Nino's shoulder. They sat in silence for about a minute before Nino decided to talk.
"I think... I think I'm in love with my best friend."
Chat froze. What? Your best friend? But I--Adrien's your best friend. While it confused the blond, he was still able to briefly understand what was happening. Without warning, his heartbeat quickened and his face felt hot. What is this...?
"I know, I know. Sounds weird, right? You've probably seen me hanging out with my friend... His name is Adrien Agreste. You know, the model dude." Nino sighed. "I'm just glad Alya understood."
He... He has feelings for ME. And he's telling me all about it! This is an invasion of privacy... Chat wanted to run away. He wanted to stop invading his friend's privacy. But for some reason, he wanted to hear more and more.
"What do you like about him?" Chat couldn't even stop the words from coming out.
Nino smiled. "What's not to like? I mean, obviously he's attractive, but everyone knows that. But like... He gives his all. Literally all the time, he just pushes himself, even when he's upset and heartbroken. His dad is an asshole and hardly ever respects his own son, but Adrien keeps smiling. I always assume he's just gonna break one day and let all of his feelings out, but he never does. I've seen him cry like twice, but he never talks about his problems. He's so nice to everyone, too. Regardless of the person, he sees good in everyone. I just... Admire him."
Chat's breath hitched. Underneath the mask was a thick layer of blush and a few tears ready to fall. Luckily, he stopped himself from crying. That would've been difficult to explain. "Wow... That's amazing, man. How long do you think you've felt this way?"
"Shit, dude. I don't know. But I realized that these feelings were different when we were hanging out alone the other day. There was an akuma and he dropped everything to make sure I was safe before he ran off to save more people. He was holding me and keeping me close to him... I guess it just felt right." Nino ran his fingers through his hair. "Why do you wanna know, anyway?"
Chat paused. Shit. What can I tell him? "I uh... I'm just curious, that's all."
"Damn. Is patrol that boring?" Nino chuckled. It was good to see him laughing after all the crying he did. The blond boy smiled but quickly realized what he was doing.
"Oh shit---Patrol!" Chat jumped up. "I have to go meet Ladybug and talk about patrol. See ya! Good luck with your friend."
And with that, the cat was jumping around Paris. He was unsure of his feelings at the moment---Maybe he just needed to talk to someone. Someone who didn't know a thing about his personal life... Someone who would listen.
After he landed on the correct rooftop, he noticed Ladybug sitting calmly with her legs swinging over the edge. She turned to Chat and smiled. "Finally! What happened, did you find some catnip along the way, Chaton?"
"Ha, no. But uh... Patrol was the same as usual. Nothing bad happened," Chat sat down next to her. "Hey uh... Can we talk about something important?"
Ladybug nodded. "Absolutely. What's going on?"
"Ah... I just met one of my friends from 'real life' in the park while I was Chat. And um... He confessed that he likes me. Well--My civilian form. He has no clue of my identity, by the way. And I'm trying to figure out how I feel." The cat stumbled over his words.
She smiled. "Hm. Well, considering your face is burning red, I'd assume you like him too. Do you think he's cute? Do you like hanging out with him? Would you say that he makes your life better?"
Chat nodded. "I-I suppose so... This is all so new. I never thought of myself as gay before."
"You could be bi, you know," Ladybug ruffled up the blond boy's hair. "You might not even have a label. It's okay. But honestly, I think you should ask this friend of yours some questions. See if there's anything you genuinely dislike about him."
"Okay, thanks m'lady." Chat stood up and sighed. "I guess I'll test myself when I see him at school tomorrow. If I try to see him as a crush... Then I'll understand how I truly feel."
Ladybug stood up and got her yoyo ready. "Good job! Tell me about it tomorrow night, okay? Hopefully that'll be the next time I see you."
They both went their respective ways. Chat wasn't ready to go back to being a model again. He didn't feel like being restricted. He was tired of the Rapunzel act. Still, he had to be Adrien in order to see Nino in a different light.
He transformed back into his civilian self as he jumped onto his bed at home. His phone buzzed in his pocket and he grabbed it.
A text from Nino.
"Hey man. I just wanna let you know that Alya and I broke up. I'm going to bed now, but... Tomorrow at school, I probably won't be too great. Please don't take it personally. Love ya bro. Peace."
A bit of blush spread across Adrien's cheeks at the sight of the L word. No, no. It's platonic. Chill out. He put his phone on his bedside table and huffed. Tomorrow is gonna be one hell of a rollercoaster.
