Just for tonight

19 9 5

I fall for your whispered teasing and honey-coated voice

My walls crumble as our lips meet in harmony

Yet I shiver despite the summer sunset that turns our heads to flame

For your smile is sweet like liquid sunshine

And your fingers are delicately entwined with mine

For your heart is made of gold

And our breathing is clear and slow

For the world slows down for us,

But kills us in the end.

Your thighs scrape the wildflowers as we run,

You scream until it hurts, you twirl like we're both not afraid

You sing like the memories aren't haunting us,

And you know I want to be free but I can't.

For we are trapped in the cage the world has built us in

For we are imprisoned in society's chains

For we're dust in a hurricane

For we aren't meant to be, and I know you know it too.

But for tonight let the worries fade

Pretend our love isn't a losing game

Wipe the tears off your stricken face

Dance with me in the ashes

Laugh with me until we can't breathe

Kiss me as the sun goes down

Count the stars and dream about the pink houses we would live in one day

Hold me and pretend morning will never come.

For we are two broken kids in a broken world

So tonight let's create our own.
