The sound of my alarm clock blaring in my ears had awoken me. It was a monday morning, exactly ten past seven. I let dorothy out for her stroll and entertainment around the neighborhood, simply not worried about a thing. Yesterday, a kid and his family had moved into a home across the street. I only interacted with him once, but he had the kindest eyes and the most intoxicating smile. I didn't let him get to me though.
After getting dressed with a short, gray hoodie and some ripped jeans, I started eating the same bland cereal I've had for... who knows how long, and afterwards I lifted up my bag to go off to highschool before I ran late. "Bye, mother!" I called, but got no response. "She must be sleeping in again.." I told myself, and closed the front door.
The air was clean and humid, with birdsong filling my ears. I stepped down from the stairs and onto the gravel and grass path that led into the driveway. I took the car keys out of my pocket, hopped into the front seat and put the keys in their slot. The car made a low rumble noise as it began, and it evened out into a loud, ear-pounding rythm. I plopped my school bag into the passenger seat, and pulled the parking gear into reverse.
Today was going to go either two ways, bad or the most amazing. My guess was bad, as every other day has. And for good reason, too.

As I pulled into the schools dull parking lot filled with either the popular kids smoking and hitting joints on their hoods before classes started, or the geeks surrounding small foldable tables set out in the schools yard to help get them through the day, I sighed.
I, myself, was not much of either. I... didn't really have any friends, besides Valeria, my bestfriend since diapers. I was bullied sure, but I wasn't particularly a nerd. Just an outcast.
The purring of my car's engine stopped as I turned off the car and took my keys to throw them in my bag on the passenger's side. I grabbed it by a mere strap and threw it over my shoulder without a care. I started walking towards the front of the building, when some douche shouted from the parking lot, "Don't get Chase on your ass again, freak!"
I turned around and it was Clarence, of course. Standing around with his clique by his fancy fucking car, smoking a cigarette. For some background on Clarence, we used to be best friends in middle school, along with Valeria. If I got hit, he and Valeria hit them back.
We did practically everything together, until one not-so-convient day me and Val caught him touching and kissing up Val's girlfriend, and.. you could see how that shitshow spiraled down.
Anyway, I turned my back towards him. He wasn't worth my time today. It was an oh-well moment if he found me later and hit my guts out, but it was whatever. I'm used to it.

The bell rung and the chatter began to raise louder as friends bid their farewells for the time being and couples kissed and hugged. Gross.
I headed towards Chemistry class, my first period. I took a seat next to Valeria after spotting her gorgeous raven-black hair and her flushed pale skin.
"Hey Liam!" She smiled. Everytime she smiled, she made my heart melt. Her smiling was like seeing a puppy run around, it was precious.
"What's up Val?" I replied, softly tossing my bag beneath me and raising to my desk with textbooks. "Oh, just the usual. Clarence being a bitch, and Rose wanting to scream everytime she sees a bee."
I laughed in acknowledgement before Mr. Tallayel boomed his voice in the room, silencing the current chatter. "Alright class, this day marks one month in school. You should know by now as fresh sophmores it's not going to be as easy as last year. You're going to have to manage your time as you receive more work. You're no longer in elementary, so behave like it. For our first material, we'll be reviewing-"
My mind drifted away, and landing on earlier, when Valeria smiled. When I thought about it, it's like my heart melted all over again.
Her pretty pale skin pushed up against her lavender sweater, and her raven hair flowing down like it was a sea of black. Her perfectly blue eyes added onto her perfection; she really was a boy-stealing glory.
She wasn't made of plastic, but pure hard work and effort. She was bold and courageous, speaking up when no one else would. God, how do I deserve her. But I made the realisation that I should stop. I don't like her in that way. She's just my bestfriend, plus she has Rose! Goddamnit..
''Liam!" Someone shouted. I started to think of Oscar Hare, and the one interaction we had yesterday. He had looked at me as I was staring at him helping his parent's carry boxes into the house, and he smiled. The bitch smiled.
It was like my whole world and universe collapsed at once.
"LIAM!" I blinked, I was back in my chemistry class. It was Valeria whisper-screaming at me. Her face was full of concern, "Lili? You okay?" I nodded as Mr. Tallayel glared towards us. When I made eye contact with him once more, he turned away.

As Chemistry ended and people flowed into the hallways for the 10 minute interval before going to second period, I exchanged a questionable glance with Val. Mr. Tallayel had dismissed us with 6 pages due of homework meant to be done at the end of the week. So unless we spent an hour and a half studying in the library everyday, there's no way we're going to get that done.
As me and Valeria's telepathic look stopped, we watched as Chase and Clarence stood at the end of the hallway turn, staring right at us. The problem was, we needed to go down that hallway and to the right if we ever needed to get to our second class, and in about 7 more minutes, we did.
They looked like blood-thirsty wolves who just layed eyes onto their prey after starving for three days. The eye contact we made alone was it enough to send shivers down my spine.
As their amber and green eyes stared menacingly down on us from down the hallway, someone bumped into me. I fell, and before thinking I released my books and landed on my wrists, doing a plank-type of resting. It was good enough to break my fall without doing much damage, and the person who bumped into me sounded really sorry.
"Oh my god! Are you okay? I'm so so sorry, I was in a rush for my schedule and-" Valeria laughed and shushed the person, and I wasn't even bothered to look up. I would be laughed at. Humiliated, if I had.
I just scrambled to gather my books and get up. As soon as I was back on my feet, I looked down and ran my fingers through my soft, dark brown hair in frustration. I finally looked up and smiled, "Hey! It's no problem, just try not to bu-" I realised who I was talking to.. Oscar. Oscare Hare. I would've fainted right there and then if I wasn't at school or around people. God, he looked so attractive. His voice was even better...
It was as humbling as lime is to lemon. His voice was like honey.. his sharp jawline was immaculate pushed against his vest and white shirt, completed with his jean shorts and tall socks accompanied by red converse. His perfect rounded nose, his rosey cheeks, his fucking beautiful brown eyes.. I was swept away. Drowning in Oscar.
I shook my head, I couldn't be gay. I've only ever liked girls in my life, I haven't been attracted to a guy before. But... Oscar seemed..
different.
