welcome to the first "how to" !! here i will spread my knowledge on servers for books !! specifically applyfic books !! i've made countless servers for each of my applyfics, so i decided to spread my knowledge. when i first started out, i used inspiration from the other applyfics i had applied for. so let's get started !!
channels i won't get into the basics of discord (what i use ) because i'll assume you already know how to use discord. but, here are the main four channels you need for your server.

welcome will be the first text channel you will have. i personally like to seperate the welcome messages from the chat channel because i don't like talking to somebody then a welcome message pops up separating conversations.
rules channel is a very necessary one. this channel, you want to make sure that this channel is a read only channel (meaning turn off the "send messages" permissions) so people don't comment and flood the channel with messages.
announcements will also be a read only channel, this is for you to ping everyone about new updates, changes, etc. be sure to not ping people too many times! nobody wants to get pinged like 10 times a day! make sure to ping when only necessary
main chat or is where everyone discusses and talks about anything! pretty self explanatory.

some extra "necessary" channels is oc intro where people will introduce your oc, so other appliers will be able to have a view of what ocs are ! my mini forms include: name, other names, preferred name, birthday, a little personality thing, faceclaim, etc. whatever you want to add!
admin intro is basically the same thing as oc intro but for appliers/members. i like to include: name/preffered name, pronouns, fun facts, wp username!
questions is a more important one, this will help others access previously answered questions or ask you about their questions. it's pretty helpful for mistakes or clarification instead of a question/ping to you getting swamped by messages in the main chat.
roles are very very important for easy ping access. i love to use roles a lot because it's easy for me to ping certain people. for example, a survival show/tv show applyfic can have "___ company trainees" and/or "female trainees" or a company applyfic will have "female trainees" and "group name." or simply if you have less members in your server, you can ping certain people. pinging 5+ people is much more time consuming than just @-ing just a role.

more "fun" channels could be a promotional channel for other people to add links to their own applyfic or a fanfic they posted on wattpad.
social media can apply to some applyfics but, this is just fun roleplay for a company applyfic, survival show, or group applyfic.

if your into roleplaying, (company applyfics, group applyfics, ect) this could be for you! the neccessary rping stuff !! a bot i like to use is tupperbox / tupper for roleplaying. if people are interested i'm willing to give a "how to" on tupper !!
bot channel is just a general bot channel for any bot you roleplay with (though idk if there is other roleplaying bots besides tupper). tupper usually needs it's own channel for registering, changing pfp/avatars, etc. so i put that there
ic chat otherwise known as "in character chat" is where people will mainly roleplay in. this is the main chat where people will use the bot to roleplay in.
links i should have put above but, whatever. it's where you add people's forms (if they used a different site other than commenting) there so it's easy access to forms for others to see. it's much more of a hassle to come over to wattpad and search their form from the comments.
roleplay room is used with threads to seperately roleplay in. this consist of maybe "private messaging/pm-ing" between a smaller group of people or just activities like a picnic or partying between characters. this is so people who don't want to/are not active don't have a spam of 300+ messages and people who do want to rp get messages.
character profile is basically the same as above. a mini form so people know who is who and what their personality is like.
