The Rekindling Of Two Hearts

White filled my vision, and a piercing pain shot through my limbs. I could hear a machine beeping to my right. Looking around the sterile room, it seemed to be a hospital. Explaining the lack of scent, and chilling air, I hated hospitals. The people were nice enough, but the atmosphere felt empty with the lack of pheromones compared to the rest of the world.

Chatter outside my door told me I wouldn't be alone for very much longer. I could hear yelling from a familiar voice, but couldn't place a name to the comforting sound. My head felt groggy still, and I was Plugged into an Iv, no doubt pumping vitamins through my bloodstream.

Great. Here I was, lying in the one place I never wanted to be in again. I looked to the side of my bed, noticing the vase of carnations in the window sill. My mother must've dropped by while I was out. Her scent was long gone, but I knew those were from her and it brought some comfort in knowing she had been here. The noise outside settled down to a whisper, in what I assume to be gossiping nurses. The nosy betas loved to gossip about their patients. Another glance around the room told me I was in a nicer hospital, having an entire room to myself was a luxury I could never afford.

I glared at the dripping cords until a nurse came in, he smiled stiffly when he saw I was no longer unconscious. "Good Morning Sir, How are you feeling?" he proceeded to check my vitals, making sure everything was working the way it ought to. "You had quite the scare I'm sure, what with a member of the League going after you."

I couldn't help the look of shock from crossing my face at the news. I hadn't known that man was from the league. "The league, huh?" It sounded more like confirming what I'd already known than the question I was going for. The man gave me a quizzical look, waiting for me to answer his previous question. "I feel alright I guess, just a little shocked. I didn't even realize he was from the league, but I also don't really know what the League looks like so that makes sense. Aren't they supposed to be a small group of villains though? I didn't think they would have a guy that strong."

The door to my room slammed open, bringing in the strong scent of maple trees with an underlining of Caramel. I could hear the nurse yelling in the background, something about leaving and rights; but, I couldn't make out exact words with the man staring straight at me. His scarlet eyes watching me, almost warily, as if I'd disappear with a single blink. Dark circles lined his eyes, and the pale skin told me he hadn't been sleeping well, if at all. His Ashen hair clumped in different spots, like he'd been pulling at the strands. He looked tired, but his gaze held a sort of sadness and relief that I didn't understand.

"Kacchan?" I breathed the foreign name, my tongue tingling from the unforgotten word. I almost didn't believe it when tears gathered in his eyes, just barely clinging to his lashes before benign blinked away. He took in a shaky breath, shoulders relaxing just a fraction as he strode closer to my bedside. I yelped when he wrapped muscular arms around my shoulders, holding me tight enough that I could feel the pounding of his heart. His scent surrounded me in comforting waves, the rest of his tension dropping as he exhaled.

His hold was warm and welcoming, taking away any doubts I had about him being here. I gripped the back of his shirt, hands shaking as I nuzzled into his chest. A faint smile graces my features as I feel his hand card gently through my unruly curls, tugging on a few longer ends. Releasing his hold, and turning to the nurse, he spoke firmly as his alpha overpowered the poor beta. "I'll be in charge of his security and care until the villain is caught."

"Yes Sir!" There was no room for arguments, so the nurse jotted the statement down before leaving. Informing the rest of the staff of the new development. With that out of his way, Katsuki turned back towards me. Taking a seat on the side, he grabbed my hand and ran his thumb along my wrist. Eyes focused on the movements as he got his thoughts together. His hands were warm, and gentle. Tracing my veins. Katsuki took in a sharp breath, his eyes darting up to meet mine. The gaze so intense I gasped, his tears had run down flushed cheeks, covering his usually scowling face in such relief it burned through my own chest.

"Deku.." The sound whispered past the heavy air, like it was cutting through water. It came out thick, and heavy despite its raspy volume. Clutching my hand tighter, he brought it up to his lips. The ghosting of a kiss landed on each of my knuckles, the movement so small I almost didn't feel it; but I did, I felt every part of his skin on my own. The contact sent my blood pumping, heating up the very places he granted feeling. The rest of my body was suddenly too cold in the chilly room, and I shivered under it's intensity. "Where have you been hiding?"

The question came gently; yet, like a wrecking ball he destroyed me. At that moment, I realized how hard Katsuki had taken my absence. I cried. Ugly, and loud. I sobbed until my throat was ruined, and then I wailed some more. Katsuki had missed me. He missed me just like I missed him. I hadn't realized he moved until I was clutching his drenched shirt as the last of my tears dried up. Taking in a gulp of breath after I had calmed down revealed his calming pheromones. There was an underlying scent of worry, and it touched my heart.

Looking up again I saw his own face was covered, his silent tears bringing a twinge of guilt. I gripped tighter to the Alpha, not ready to let the cold room embrace me. Smiling when his arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer. We stayed like that, in peaceful silence curled up together, until our racing hearts had calmed. When they did, I answered him, laying my soul bare to the man I had never thought would notice me. "Where I've always been Kacchan." I caught his eyes, the confusion swirling in their depths before understanding dawned, and he squeezed me impossibly tighter. A smile finally gracing his features.

I hoped with all of my heart that I would never wake up. If life would just give me this one dream; and make it my reality, I would play by all of her rules.
