Sara nearly choked on her latte. Julie? Back?
She heard clunks as Julie walked into class. She glanced at her leg,that was all metal and fake.
"She had to have a leg amputation after a wreck. Please be kind and treat her well." The teacher sat down and called roll. Sara was so disoriented that all she could say was a quiet 'here'.
Julie had taken the seat next to her and waved hello. Sara thought that maybe bygones were bygones and waved back. Julie's auburn hair swished across the desk as she turned toward the teacher.
Soon enough,Sara's lunch period started. Julie sat at the same table and even made some small talk. She was in all of Sara's classes. Sara decided that she should look at who had the most votes for prom queen and king. Under the king category,James was in the lead.
But in the queen category...Julie Jenkins was in first.
Sara screamed. And she could already hear what her father would say:
"Life is a prom. I know you won't disappoint me and mom."
