"Hey. I got us a campus map, and look at this..." Phil flipped through the brochure. Luke was working out his back with resistant bands and panted heavily. (Y/n) was sitting in the chair across from him biting her lip at her boyfriend; the sweat dripping down his forehead, his hair curling even more from the heat, the way his arms tensed up--
"My old college frat has a chapter here!" The dad exclaimed.
"Cool." Was all Luke managed to get out.
"Wow, you're really giving those bands a workout." Phil put the pamphlet down.
"Not like I'm complaining" you swoon.
"Oh, just burning off some nervous energy. They don't ask questions on a college tour, right?" Luke asked worryingly.
......
Phil was trying the resistant bands when--
Gloria opened the door and the band released and snapped his back! (like what happens with an elastic, y'know?)
"Ow! Oh!" He groaned on the floor.
"Sorry, sorry! Guys, come look!" Gloria said, "I did something very bad."
"Manny is taking a nap," she whispered. "so I put a pig-a-let in the bed!"
(y/n) and Luke stifle their laughs. "Oh, my God," Luke says.
"Where'd you get that?" (y/n) commented.
"You remember those farmers that we met?" she giggled. "You'll be surprised what they'll
do for a couple of big tips."
Manny awoke and screamed. "Whoa! What is that?"
"It's you from the future, Manny" you joked.
"Nice one babe," Luke complimented.
"It's a pig-a-let! Man, you should see your face!" Gloria laughed.
"Ohh, it licked my face! Why would you do this?"
"Aye, Manny, don't be so uptight! I'm preparing you for college so that you fit in
and make some friends." Gloria trailed on.
"Yeah, you should thank your mom because we all know you'd fit in just great with the popular kids" (y/n) nodded condescendingly and smiled.
"Popular kids love Shakespeare and Hamlet" Luke teased and they laughed.
Manny rolled his eyes. "College is about higher education, not pranks."
"NERD!" you called out and the whole family laughed. "Come on Delgato. Gloria's right, you need to live a little. Plus, that piglet was adorable."
.....
Luke stood outside with his hands deep in his pockets waiting for his dad, Gloria and Manny as they packed their bags with snacks and water for the tour.
"Hey, is everything alright?" you squeezed his arm. "You seem tense. And strong. That workout did wonders for you, didn't it?"
"I don't know, (y/n), I'm just kind of scared"
(y/n) was scared at the fact that Luke used her real name.
"Luke, you're going to be okay. College isn't for everyone. I mean, just look at Haley. She's doing fine. She's got two kids and a dumb husband. People have done wondrous things without having gone to College"
Luke avoided eye contact. How could he tell her he was afraid of her going to Cambridge and long-distance would break them up?
"I'm just scared that when you get accepted in Cambridge and Harvard you're going to find a hot English guy who's smart and you're going to fall in love with him and forget about the American guy." he blurted.
(y/n) brown eyes softened and you squeezed his hand. "Remember that night you crawled into my room like a creepy stalker and told me you had a bad dream that we weren't friends anymore?"
"Yeah"
"I said I'd move away if I didn't have a life with you, right?"
"Yeah?"
"So what makes you think, now, that I have you as my boyfriend in my life, that I would leave you for some English guy?"
Luke smiled from ear to ear.
.....
"Admission has gotten tougher. Only about 4 out of 10 applicants get accepted." The tour lady said.
"Ugh." Luke groaned.
"It's okay, Luke. You sent your letter and I'm sure you're going to get in" You smiled sweetly at him as you held his hand. It was a bit sweaty and every time the tour lady talked his grip would tighten.
"You've beaten worse odds than that. We forgot to get you vaccinated till you were 6." Phil reassured.
The lady talked about all the cool and successful people who went to the university and Luke's grip tightened even more (y/n_ thought her hand was going to fall off.
It's going to be okay, she squeezed back.
"Excuse me, Steffi? My son Tim here developed a finance app that caught the eye of some folks at JP Morgan, so he'll need to keep that going along with school." One dad said.
"Excuse me, Steffi?" Phil started.
"What are you doing?" Luke whispered.
"My son Lucas here is a recognized amateur trampolinist."
"Dad!"
"I'm assuming you guys have a training facility so he can continue his pursuits in the applied bouncing arts?" Phil side-eyed the other dad and (y/n) mentally facepalmed.
"I'm not sure I'm understanding..." Steffi said as politely as she could.
"Do you guys have a trampoline?"
"I think there's a small one in the daycare center." She nodded quickly.
"Actually, Luke is an aspiring novelist. He just found an editor and a publisher, you know how long that stuff takes. Are there any classes available for him to continue his pursuit of becoming an author?" (y/n) saved him. People gasped and started whispering.
"Actually yes! There are a couple of classes that I would be happy to show you. Everybody, come this way" Steffi guided.
"Thank you so much" Luke whispered.
(y/n) kissed him on the cheek.
....
Phil and Luke climbed up to the bell tower, Phil went on about him and Gretchen and how she specializes in making bells or whatever, Luke wasn't listening.
"Maybe you could, too. Get you into a class on..."
"What? I'm gonna learn all this in three months?"
"You're a quick study! Look at how fast you learned magic."
"That's not really a sign of a quick learner."
I wish (y/n) was here right now. I'm going to explode
"I believe you can do anything you put your mind to." Phil tried to sound encouraging.
"Why?" Luke spat.
As Phil tried to say what he wanted to, the bells started chirping.
"God, I hate it when you do this." Luke turned away.
"Do what? You look mad. Are you mad?"
The bells chirped again.
"Go now, quick!" Phil exclaimed.
"Stop acting like I'm someone I'm not! Stop telling me how great I am when it's not true! Don't you see how much pressure that is?!" Luke stormed off and wished he had (y/n)'s hand to squeeze.
....
Manny and Luke locked themselves in a dorm room and argued about how Luke couldn't do anything and Gloria treated Manny like a child with all her pranks.
"why'd you even come here if you're so sure you can't get in?" Manny asked.
"I don't know. Maybe because this is the one place we might both get in, that might make this whole thing a little less scary!"
Manny stopped and shook his head. "You're scared that (y/n)'s going to leave you, aren't you?"
"Yeah man,"
"I'm fucking terrified"
