Chapter 1 !
"Hurry up Katelyn!" My Dad growled at me.
I ran down the stairs. "I don't understand why I have to come!" I yelled at him.
"Well first of all I said so and second of all the last time I left you home alone, I came home to a house full of people!" I reached him at the bottom of the stairs.
"Do you honestly think I can organise a party in half an hour and fill the place with people?!"
He stepped towards me his blue eyes blazing. "Yes, I believe you could." I smiled to myself glad to know that he knows that I am actually capable of that.
Dad walked to the front door and opened it motioning for me to walk out the house. I sigh and walked passed him. My Dad and I do not get along. We're always fighting. Ever since he came home to a house full of people he hasn't let me stay home alone. This meant if he quickly had to go to the office, I had too as well.
I jumped into Dad's car; I slipped my thongs [Note- Australian meaning for 'Flip Flops' or 'Sandals'] off and put my feet on the dashboard as I clicked on my seatbelt.
Dad glared at me when he got in the car. "What?" I demanded.
"Get your feet off the dashboard. I hate it when you do that." Sighing I took my feet down.
"I know you do, that's why I do it." I mumbled to myself.
"What was that you said?" Dad asked in an angry tone as he pulled out of the long drive way.
"Oh, nothing." I said sarcastically. Dad looked at me.
"What are you wearing?" He asked in disgust. I looked down at myself. I was only wearing mini shorts with a loose white and black stripped top which cut off just above my belly button.
"Clothes of course," I said. I don't care about making my dad angry because he's always angry. I only care about annoying him. That's what he gets when he decides he wants to ignore his fifteen year old daughter.
"Don't you dare-"Dad started before I cut him off.
"Look if you don't like what I'm wearing then you should have left me at home! It's like you're too embarrassed to go to the office with your daughter wearing shorts and a top! Would you rather I go naked!?" I exclaimed proving my point. Dad made a sound in disgust as he started to drive faster.
After ten minutes of silence in the car we finally arrived at the office. I tagged behind Dad as he made his way up the stairs from the underground car parking and up the elevator. Before the elevator doors opened Dad said in a gruff voice, "Behave yourself." That means that now is the time to act all happy family. Joy! Every time we're out in public dad makes me 'behave' as in be a good daughter that loves her father. Dad becomes all lovey and says how great I am, just to get a good reputation at his work. He acts like the best father in the world. But little does everyone know that he's the worst father in the world. He doesn't even know when his freaking daughter's birthday is! He just doesn't care about me he doesn't even know what I go through.
We made our way through the lobby and to the receptionist,
"Hello Penny," My Dad greeted the lady behind the counter.
"Mr Dunlope. What are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be taking your daughter out for tea?" Penny spoke as she looked at him and smiled. Dinner? Pfft! As if!
Dad put his arm over my shoulders, "Yes Penny, We're just on our way out when I forgot something from my office." He smiled widely down at me and back at Penny. I forced a fake smile.
"Oh okay, I won't keep you two waiting then. " Dad smiled as we stepped away from the desk and towards another elevator.
Dad took his arm away from me and looked at me, "Now you wait here, Sit over there." He said pointing to a couch between the reception and the elevator. "Behave and stay put." He demanded.
"Whatever," I mumbled as I walked over to the couch.
I don't even know what my Dad does for a job. The only thing I do know is that there are two men (My dad and some other dude) that are in line to become the boss of this joint. So they have to prove who is smarter, who works better, who organises things properly, blah blah blah. I would honestly rather the other dude to get it because I have no respect for my dad what so ever. Just as my mind kept rambling on someone slumped down next to me. I looked beside me at a smiling guy. Jet black hair with matching bright brown eyes; is it possible to have bright brown eyes? Oh! Forgot to mention nicely tanned skin!
"Hello," He said.
"Hi," I said looking away from him.
"Watcha doing?" he asked happily.
"What does it look like?" I said bitterly.
"Hm, I heard you were a very nice little girl." He said without a tinge of disappointment in his voice. Who is this kid?
I turned to face him. "Um, I'm sorry but do I know you?"
He chuckled. "Nope," He said popping the 'p' with a big smile. "I'm Dominic. What's your name?"
"Katelyn,"
"Cute name," He smiled. I smiled slightly too. This guy was nice. But who was he exactly? "So your Nathan's daughter, right?"
How does he know my dad? "Ah, yeah." I replied a little stunned.
"He talks about you a lot, that you're the best daughter in the world and the most behaved girl. He goes on and on, apparently. No offence. You're a lot different than he says," Dominic looked me in the eye.
"Well I'm sorry I don't reach your expectations. Anyway how do you know my dad?"
"He works with mine,"
"Hmm,"
"So I hear you and your dad are real close?" why does this guy keep asking me questions?
"Yeah, real close." I tried to say without any sarcasm in my voice.
"That's cool; I don't get along with either of my parents." Dominic looked down at his hands.
"What are you doing here then?" I asked curiously.
"Well, I'm trying to get my hours up on my driving so when I turn eighteen I can get my license and leave."
"Fair enough,"
"Excuse me Katelyn?" I looked up to see Penny coming towards me.
"Ah, yeah?"
She came over to me, "Your Dad dropped his wallet on the way to the elevator before. I don't want to disturb him so could you please give this to him?" handing me over my dad's wallet.
I smiled. "Of course, that's no trouble at all."
"Thank-you dear." She finished as she scurried off.
Still aware of Dominic presence I opened my dad's wallet. He had a ton of money in there. He wouldn't notice a few missing. I took a hundred, two fifties, a couple twenties and a few tens.
"What are you doing?" Dominic asked as I stuffed the notes into my pocket.
"Investing," I replied with a smile as I looked into his eyes. Dominic's eyes seemed to ask me a silent question like 'What really is going on?' The smile from my face faded as I looked down at my hands and tried swallowing back the lump in my throat.
"Are you-"Dominic started but was interrupted from my dad.
"Hurry up, we're going." Dad said to me in an angry voice as he stormed past me. I stood up immediately and followed him, stopping once to look back at confused Dominic.
