Chapter 12

A/N Please note! I posted another chapter before this today, don't read this one as some won't make too much sense. Nothing major, but it is better.

The 13 of them went to sit at the Ravenclaw table for lunch, and they ate slowly, excited for the afternoon lesson. Well, at least the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws were- Hufflepuff had History with the Slytherins.Soon, they had finished, and the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs set off for charms. As they got to the classroom, they saw that all of the desks had been pulled apart and there was now a big space in the middle. They knew that Sherlock had been right in his assumption ("It wasn't an assumption, it was an easy observation!"). Soon, Professor Flitwick entered the room, and told them to gather around the middle.

"Today I will be teaching you the basics of dueling. It is a skill that would prove useful in the future as many things can be settled using a wizards duel, and you can become a well respected wizard when you win competitions, and the like." He explained in his high pitched voice. Hermione knew that he had once been a dueling champion, so she believed that they would be taught this topic well.

"I will need a volenteer for this. Would anyone want to join me in the demonstration?" He asked, and Hermione's hand shot into the air immediately. "Miss Granger, let's have you then!" She beamed, and stood up to stand near the teacher. A line was draw and everyone else backed away to give them space. The small professor went through the steps, and instructed Hermione on what to do. Soon, they got down to the spell casting, and that was when everyone really payed attention. Hermione, though one of the brightest witches in the year, was no match for Flitwick, and had soon lost her wand.

"Get into pairs, and duel. The winners will continue and play another winner, the others will be out. We'll continue like that until we have one champion, who will play me! Begin!" He cried dramatically, and they got started. To maximize their chances of success, the 9 of them agreed to go against different partners (apart from Tris, Harry, Ron and Katniss), and Hermione tried her hardest, eager to show her skills in spell knowledge. She easily beat her first partner, and she continued to the next duel. Ron, Percy and Tris were out in this round, and there were eight people left this time.

Hermione went against a different person, and so did Sherlock, but the others had to pair up with their friends. Hermione, yet again, made easy work of her partner, but the others didn't do so well. Annabeth and Katniss were beaten by Harry and John, so the last four were Sherlock, John, Harry and Hermione. Sherlock naturally went with John, so that left Harry with Hermione. She was worried about this one, as Harry seemed to have a talent for DADA, as well as potions.

They bowed, and Harry shot first. Hermione produced a block, which reflected the stunner back to Harry, who only just got there in time. Hermione used this as a chance to send her first spell, which Harry managed to dodge. He stood up again, and sent a spell to Hermione, and she decided to try a block she had read about that would not only block and reflect the spell, but make it go twice as fast. Like she thought, Harry wasn't quick enough, and he got hit with his own stunner, and she won. However, she was up against Sherlock, although she wasn't surprised.

Sherlock started with a quick stunner, but he seemed to know exactly what she was planning on doing, and ducked before she put up her advanced reflected block. She sighed, and responded with two stunners in quick succession, but Sherlock waved his wand and her spells were caught in midair inside two bubbles. What spell was that? Before she could pull up a block, Sherlock sent her another spell, without speaking again. This time, when it hit Hermione, she flew up into the air, frozen, and Sherlock reached up to take her wand, before she fell back down again.

Everyone clapper, and looked amazed. "Where did you learn to do that, Sherlock?" John asked him, stunned at the spells he had used.

"Oh" Sherlock began, but coughed. "I like to compose when I think. It used to be violin music, but since I discovered magic, I tend to think up different spells. I can't explain it, I just shoot at a dummy I have in my room. Or whatever I can find. It's never verbal, though." He explained, making every ones open mouths open even faster.

"Amazing!" Squeaked Flitwick, as he walked up to Sherlock. "You could already get an outstanding in your OWL with that talent! And non-verbal spells aren't taught until 6th year! 30 points to Ravenclaw for outstanding skill! And 10 to Miss Granger, Mister Potter and Mister Watson." He said. Just as he and Sherlock were about to duel, they realised the time, and that it was the end of the lesson. They agreed to start off the next lesson with that instead.

Whilst everyone went off with Sherlock to talk about his skills, Ron stayed behind with Hermione. He turned to her, worried. "You notice something different about anyone here?" He asked, in a low voice. Hermione frowned.

"No, why?"

"Percy! He went out in the first round of duels, and that's not right!" He told her, and she caught on.

"You're right!" She said, intrigued. "Why is that? The amulet can't be the object then!" Ron smiled at her.

"Not if I hid it this morning!" He told her. She gasped, as they realised that the amulet was the thing affecting Percy's talents in lessons. Hermione was going to go and tell him immediately, but Ron convinced her to let it go for the time being. She reluctantly gave in, and they went off to tea.

After a quick tea, Tobias asked Tris if she would join him for a walk outside the grounds before they had to go to their dorms. She agreed, as it was still light. winter was coming soon, as was the end of term (in two weeks!). This meant that they were going to Tobias' house, as they were all allowed to go and were all free. They set off, and talked about the plans they had for the holidays. They had grown quite close since the beginning of year one, even though they hadn't known each other before school, and were in different houses.

Tobias cleared his throat before speaking. "Ever since I've come to this school, you've been so nice to me. I don't really fit in Hufflepuff, and you'll probably see why when you come around to mine this holiday. But I really like you, Tris."

"Me too, Tobias." She whispered back, and they stopped walking. Tris suddenly noticed how close she was to Tobias, and was glad that they were far enough away from the castle for anybody to see. She looked up into his eyes, and they locked together. Without thinking about it, Tobias lent down to her height and then he kissed her.

Tris couldn't think straight. Her heart was pounding in her chest, as she moved closer to Tobias, closing the gap between them. It seemed to last for hours, as she was lost in the moment. They finally pulled away, and Tris felt her cheeks go red. They laughed, nervously, and they began to walk back towards the castle. They held hands, and Tobias spoke again.

"Like I said, I really like you. And I've known for a while that I like you in a different way from the others. I was wondering... Wondering if you'd like to be my girlfriend." He stumbled, and looked hopefully at Tris.

"Of course I would, after that!" She laughed, and pulled Tobias back down to kiss him again. It took another few minutes to get back into the castle. They said goodbye, and both went off to their separate common rooms. Tris went up to get ready for bed, with a wide smile on her face. She met Katniss there, who noticed her expression.

"Why are you so happy?" She asked her friend. Tris giggled, and began to tell her about this evening.

"You'll never guess what happened just now!"

A/N I was reading my last book, and I was re-reading the comments people put on each chapter. I realise that I posted literally everyday, and I can't believe I was so good with that. So here is another chapter to make up for the ones I won't be posting next week. And I am so sorry for not telling you often enough how much your comments mean to me! I was re-reading them from the last books, like I said, and I couldn't believe how nice you guys all are. I seem to be lacking with this book, and I hope to make it up to you. As of now, I'll try to post as often as I can.

Till next time
