Season 2 ~ New Kids in Town

Start from the beginning

"All night?" Nancy asks, tilting her head and looking over at Jonathan.

"Yeah."

"No, no way." Nancy laughs and shakes her head, clutching onto her books tighter. "You're going to be home by eight. Listening to the Talking Heads and reading Vonnegut...or something."

"That sounds like a nice night."

"Jonathan," I sigh. "Come on. Just come."

"Who knows," Nancy says, opening her locker. "You might even like meet someone—"

Nancy lets out a loud squeal of joy as Steve ran up to her from the classroom he had just been in, wrapping his arms around her waist and picking her up.

My heart shatters as I look over at the happy couple, grabbing Jonathan by the arm, I realize he had been staring at over Nancy giggling in Steve's arms, discovering his feelings for the girl, and pulled him into the cafeteria.

"Nancy?" I ask him, raising an eyebrow, gripping the books in my arms tighter.

"What about her?"

"You like her," I roll my eyes explain it to him as if it wasn't already obvious. "I can see it in your eyes."

"Okay so I like her..." He admits with a sigh. "Don't you like Steve?"

I nod lightly, my lips forming a thin line and I look down at the tiled floor of the cafeteria, an awkward silence between the two of us.

"Well." Jonathan pipes up after a moment. "Let's get some lunch."

"Yes please." I say, desperately trying to get away from the awkwardness of our conversation.

As I made my way over to the usual lunch table I sat at with Jonathan, the new kid from this morning, who I had heard was named Billy, already sitting in Steve's original spot with Tommy and Carol's group of friends, looked over, eyeing me up and down while shooting a wink in my direction.

I set my tray down across from Jonathan at our usual lunch table, rolling my eyes and beginning to eat the sandwich in front of me.

"You seem to have caught the new kids eye, huh?" Jonathan asks me, smirking, while shoving some potato chips in his mouth.

"I guess." I murmur, wiping some mustard off the side of my mouth, continuing to eat my sandwich and wishing I could just go home already.

After school, I made my way to my locker, slamming it open once I heard my walkie-talkie go off. Dustin and I had been on edge since last year so we kept in contact during school.

"(Y/n)," Dustin says, his voice distorted over the static. "Do you copy?"

"What's up, Dust." I say, clicking on the radio.

"Meet Lucas and I at the arcade, over." He says.

"Now?" I ask, shoving all my books in my bag.

"Yes, now." He says desperately.

"Okay," I sigh, slinging my backpack over my shoulder. "I'll be there in five, over."

Shutting off the walkie-talkie, I stick it in the side of my bag, making my way over to the bike rack, unlocking it and making my way to the arcade to see Lucas and Dustin hiding behind a dark blue car.
