Clara groggily opened her eyes. She looked over at her clock, their alarm goes off in hour. She gently gets out of bed, trying not to wake the dark haired girl next to her, as she goes to the bathroom. She slides the gown over her clothes and places the cap on her head. Today was the day, the beginning of the rest of her life. The next chapter in her chronicles. As she got lost in her thoughts, she jumped out of them when a pair of hands wrapped around her waist.
"Jesus Laura!" Clara exclaimed, startled by the girl's sudden appearance. "I tried not to wake you up."
"Well you did." Laura laughed "Why are you even up this early?"
"I don't know, nerves probably." Clara paused "In a few hours we're on our own Laura. It's scary."
Laura chuckled at her girlfriend's expense. "Babe we don't leave for art school for 2 more weeks."
"Still, we're gonna be on the other side of the country. California's like 3,000 miles from here. Will mom and Abby be okay? Will we be okay? What if we ne-"
Laura crashed her lips against Clara's, their lips moving in perfect rhythm together. "You needed to calm down." Laura let out with whatever air wasn't stolen from her body.
"How are you not nervous? You're valedictorian, you have a speech to give." Clara reminded her girlfriend.
"Oh, I'm very nervous. I just hide it way better than your shaky ass." Laura giggled, "Besides, the school's warmed up to us now. If we had done this a year ago I would be petrified."
They walked downstairs to Jill and Abby sitting at the table, they were both getting ready for work. Once Abby and Jill realized how soon college was approaching, and with both girls going to a California art school, they realized they needed higher paying jobs. They started a babysitting business in the house, with 10 dollars an hour per kid with 7 kids every weekday.
Jill and Abby have their own thing going on. They're not in a relationship, they're just a lot, ahem, closer than most friends are. Abby cleared out her room as extra space and now sleeps with Jill in her room. This of course came after some very passionate nights the two shared. The whole things is complicated, some might say overly complicated. But this is what they decided those nearly 2 years ago.
"Hey graduates!" Jill exclaimed when she saw the two girls.
Abby rushed over to Laura and hugged her, tears brimming her eyelids. "I'm so proud of you." A smile crossed her face, "I never made it to this moment and you fought so hard for it."
"I love you." Laura said, tears starting to fight out of her eyes now.
The four women stood in the kitchen, not a dry eye in sight. Laura wouldn't let Clara see her speech. She told her it was a surprise, so to say Clara is intrigued was an understatement.
-
"Ah come on, at least give me a hint!" Clara begged her girlfriend on the bus, desperate to know the big secret.
"Oh my God babe," her girlfriend exclaimed "for the last time: no!"
"Why not?" The blonde whined.
"You're so impatient."
"I am n-"
Clara was cut off by the sound of the bus door opening. It dawned on her this was the last time she would walk into this school. It was a thought that was honestly hard to grasp. This is where she spent so many years, and in two weeks she'd be on the other side of the country.
She was taken out of her thoughts by a hand clasping hers. She looked up at the dark haired girl standing up next to her and smiled.
Today was a lenient day for seniors. More of a day to say goodbye to this chapter of their life. Clara and Laura were walking the crowded halls, when one voice calling their names stood out to them. They turned around to see who it was, and feared the worst when they laid eyes on her.
