"What was that for?" He whines, cradling the spot I had just slapped.

"She doesn't want to do it," I state the obvious. "Don't encourage her."

Steve huffs, turning his attention back to Nancy and Barb.

"Nance," Barb sighs. "I don't want to."

"It's fun!" Nancy encourages. "Just give it a—"

"Nance..."

"Just... Just give it a shot."

Barb rolls her eyes, pushing herself out of the small pool chair.

"Okay." She says, unenthusiastically.

Placing the knife in the beer can, her hand slips, causing the knife to cut right through her hand, blood gushing out of the wound.

"Gnarly." Tommy chuckles while taking a drag of his cigarette.

"Are you okay?" I ask, standing up from my chair and making my way over to her.

"Yeah." Barb dismisses, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Barb," Nancy narrows her eyebrows. "you're bleeding."

"I'm fine." She spat. "Where's your bathroom?"

"Oh, it's—" Steve starts but I interrupt him.

"It's fine Barb," I say while grabbing her shoulders and placing the beer on the table next to me. "I'll take you."

As I walked Barb into the bathroom, I looked behind me to see Steve watching the two of us walk inside, making sure we knew where we were going.

When we made it the bathroom, Barb sat herself on the toilet while I reach my hand into the top drawer of the sink, pulling out the first aid kit for her, along with bandages and some rubbing alcohol for her cut, setting them on the counter next to Barb.

"You know I really thought he liked you."

"Who?" I asked, dabbing a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol onto the wound.

"Steve," Barb said. "It seemed like he really had a thing for you."

"Well he likes Nancy," I sigh with a small laugh as I wrap a bandage around her hand. "So I shouldn't get my hopes up."

"Well then," Barb says, walking out the door. "He's an idiot for not liking you back."

"Damn right he is." I laugh once again, setting the first aid kit and bandages back into its original place in the drawer.

Walking out of the bathroom, I see Tommy and Carol wrapped up in towels, rushing into Steve's parents room, Steve was trailing behind them, running up the stairs, soaking wet as well.

"What the hell happened to you?" I ask him from the bottom of the stairs.

He turns around from his spot on the staircase and faces me.

"I jumped into the pool." He smirks and turns back around making his way up a couple steps.

"Hey," I call up to him. "I think i'm going to head home."
