*A/N*

I just wanted to say thank you to the few people who actually read my story. You guys are awesome. This might be where some people get confused, we are now in present time. Like in chapter 1 where Ethan is now in Danielle's hospital room.

********************************************

Without all the tubes and bruises all over her body that make her unrecognizable, she would look like she's merely sleeping. She used to be so fragile, now I know why. She just looks broken, I collapsed in the chair next to her hospital bed.

"I'm sorry." I didn't know what else to say, it was all my fault. She didn't respond, not that I was expecting her to, but it was a whole different kind of pain listening to the silence being broken by the beeping of the monitors that were breathing for the person I loved. I could feel the hot tears as they ran down my face, and I didn't try to stop them. I let them run, until they pooled on the florr as they fell off my face. I couldn't find the energy  to move even when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Exuse me sir, only family is allowed in here at this time." It was the nurse that I ran past on my way in here. I opened my mouth trying to talk, but no words would come out. I cleared my throat. My voice still sounded like it went through the shredder, "I am family, Danielle is my fiance." My voice cracked as I uttered her name and what she was to be in the course of a year.

"Danielle's whole left side is broken and she had major Hemroges and contusions to her skull. The mother will be here shortly and the doctor will explain the seriousness of her injuries." The lifelessness in her voice smacked me in the face like ice water. Why is she talking about her like she's nothing?! I want to scream at her, tell her Danielle is not just a name on a piece of paper, that she's the love of my life. I want to yell at her that it's all my fault and it should be me dying in that hospital bed instead of her, that i would lay down my life  so she could live, I would give anything to take her pain away and get her out of that bed. But I don't yell at the nurse, I just nod my head and fall back into the chair, hitting my head on the wall as I fall. I can't feel the pain, I can't feel anything but the tear and I focus on that as I stare at my beautiful girlfriend lay helpless and lifeless in the hospital bed, letting the machine keep her heart beating for her. I can feel myself die a little with every beep of the monitor.
