Chapter 1 - Partners

You're in your last period before lunch, all you can think about is your break and spending it with your friends. You start to zone out because Kakashi Sensei's lectures always bored you. Not his fault, you just never liked science. Not to mention it's a Monday.

You're staring out the window daydreaming about life until you hear Kakashi say, "For this week's assignment you will be working with a partner! Hopefully this will improve your team working skills". Kakashi Sensei never let you pick partners so all you can do is cross your fingers and hope that you're paired with your best friend, Tenten.

Kakashi has already paired up everyone except for you, Tenten, Temari, and Naruto. You didn't have a problem working with any of them but you obviously preferred Your best friend. "Tenten and Temari will be our next pair leaving Y/N with Naruto."

You looked at Naruto to find him already starring at you. When you made eye contact, he smiled. He always played pranks in class and he's super loud. Although you knew this you weren't very nervous since you had talked before because you have mutual friends. You smiled back and when Kakashi released the class to work in their pairs Naruto walked over to you.

"Hey Y/N! We don't really talk much huh? Guess we can use this opportunity to get to know each other!" He said with a big smile. He was right. You only ever talked when you would hang out with friends so you didn't know much about him. This could be a good opportunity to get to know each other!

You worked together all through class researching phase change. When the bell rang it was finally time for lunch. You and Naruto both stand up and you were about to leave before him until you hear, " Y/N?"

You turn around to Naruto who has a big smile on his face of course, but this time his face was slightly pink. "Do you maybe...want to sit together at lunch?" You smile back and respond, "sure!" He grabs your hand and you make your way to the cafeteria. His hands are warm and welcoming. You feel safe when you're with him and even though you just became friends, you can tell your friendship is going to last.

When you arrive to the Cafeteria you see your group of friends already sitting at your usual table. You and Naruto walk over and sit down with Rock Lee and Tenten. "Where's Neji, Choji, and Shikamaru?" You ask. "They went to the bathroom but they'll be back soon" Tenten stops talking and just stares at Naruto.

"Uh hey Naruto! I didn't even realize you were there! Sorry bud." She lets out a nervous laugh. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but why aren't you sitting with your normal group of friends?" She asks with a genuine look of concern. "Oh Nothing happened I just wanted to get to know y/n better since we're working together this week for chemistry." He responds with another huge smile. He was so bright and cheery. You had been in a class with him for half a year now but never realized how nice he was.

Naruto and Lee got up to go get a lunch leaving you and Tenten at the table since you both bring your own lunch. "So... How is it working with Temari?" You ask.

"It's average. She's a nice girl but she's really serious. I could still see myself hanging out with her outside of school though. What about Naruto?"

"Naruto is super nice and really funny. I think it's really sweet that he's trying to become my friend just because we're working together for the week. Unfortunately though he's not the sharpest tool in the shed." You both giggle until you notice them walking back and quickly stop.

Once they sit down Shikamaru, Neji, and Choji walk in. Neji and Choji sit their backpacks down and go to the lunch line without a word. Shikamaru was going to do the same until he realized Naruto was at the table. They greet each other with a fist bump. "Why are you sitting with us today?" He asks. "Me and y/n are partners in chemistry and I wanted to get to know her a bit better so that it wasn't awkward." He responds. Shikamaru nods his head and rushes over to the lunch line.

Naruto turns to you. "So y/n, what grade do you have in chemistry?" You sigh but respond quickly. "A C+. It could be better but I absolutely hate chemistry so I barely try." Naruto widens his eyes. "Barely try? You're doing way better than me! I have a D-!" You sit there in shock as Tenten and Rock Lee start cracking up. "Hey it's not funny! I could do better I just don't want to ya know!" And that made you start to laugh. "Come on y/n! You too???" You apologize and give him a cookie you baked making him ultimately accept your apology.

"You really made this?" Asked Naruto.

"Yes! I love to bake. I used to do it with my mom but she works so much now that I just do it on my own."

"Yea my dad works a lot too." He replies.
"But Anyway, you'll have to teach me how to bake sometime." For some reason you felt your face heat up a bit.

"For sure." You respond with a smile.

Lunch goes by pretty quickly and is filled with laughs, Naruto's loud talking, and Rock Lee's lectures on how if you're going to eat so many cookies you need to exercise more to balance it out. You, Tenten, Lee, and Neji often go to the gym together but Shikamaru is too lazy to join and Choji hates even the thought of exercising. Point is, you were used to Rock Lee's lectures on fitness but every time he brought up exercise Naruto looked at him with both amazement and confusion.

Before you knew it the lunch bell rang and it was time for everyone to go their separate ways except for you and Neji who had the next class together. You just left the cafeteria and you hear, "y/n, Neji! Wait up!" You turn around and it's Naruto. He was heading to the south building as well. You walk together then say goodbye to Naruto since he has to go upstairs. Once he's gone Neji asks, "Are you two close now?" This question caught you off guard since he was mostly quiet at lunch. "We're just getting to know each other and becoming friends. Why?"

"Just asking because we've never sat with him until today. He seems like a nice guy though. I wouldn't mind him being around more." He smiles at you as you walk into class.

~Time skip to after school~

You walk up to your house and unlock the front door. "Welcome home dear!" You hear a voice come from the kitchen. Your mom is home. "Mom?" You're shocked since she'd normally be at work this time of day. "Honey, I have some good news! I quit my job!"

"huh?"

This chapter so trash but I swear it gets better😩‼️ this is my first story so PLEASE be patient with these first few chapters. Just trying to set up the story with the first chapter rather than jump right in. Hope you enjoyed!
