Everybody gets used at some point or another in his or her life. In fact, often we welcome it. It is a deal we make to get what we want or what we need-- a ride to school, a ticket to the game, a hot date, a part invite- are mutually agreed upon fair trade usually, but feeling used is an entirely different matter. In that case you are nothing more than a conduit for someone else's ambition. A member of their audience and a bystander in their fantasy.
