I Am Lacerta Chapter 1

It's surprising how fast two and a half years flew by. When I think back on them I remember mostly just boredom. See, I didn't have too many friends - actually I had one. I know what you're thinking - I've heard it all before: "One friend - what a loser!", but Luna Lovegood and I were perfectly suited to eachother - both of us equally socially retarded in our own houses and out.

We weren't popular bitches like Ginny Weasley, and we didn't want to be. The rest of the students in my house were "blood-purists" - it's bad enough having to live with Draco Malfoy and his obnoxious father during the holidays - so living with them everyday is enough to drive you loopy.

I was dragged sharply back to reality when I dropped the hairbrush I had been holding. I didn't really need a hairbrush, being a metamorphmagus really had it's advantages, but it's nice to appear slightly normal to my room-mates.

I was preparing myself for a night of depressing boredom, The Yule Ball, but had decided I wanted to look good anyway. I wouldn't even be going if I didn't have a date with Malfoy's friend Blaise Zabini - I was only third year at the time. The whole Tri-Wizard Tournament was driving me mental - what a waste of a school year, we're aren't even allowed to play any Quidditch matches! And that obnoxious Potter boy always sticking his stupid little nose in other people's business where it's CLEARLY not wanted...

By this time I was finished getting ready. I looked in the mirror. Damn,  didn't look half bad! My thick black hair with it's natural fire-red streaks was partially held back by a dragon clip, which matched my fire-red dress with a raven black dragon swirling around my middle, highlighting my waist.

I was wearing two-inch black patent heels - easier to dance in than 4 inch I had decided - that matched my hair perfectly, with a coincidentaly red heel. I wore very little make-up, no foundation at all, but a little mascara and some blood-red lipstick. Once I had fixed a few minor errors and smudges, I tried to run down the stairs, but - after remembering the heels - opted to walk carefully.

By the time I got down my date was waiting impatiently for me. I rolled my eyes, because that's a turn on. My cousin, Malfoy and his date, Pansy Parkinson - a nasty bitch in the year above - had agreed to wait with Zabini, the match was not made by me - trust me there- until I arrived.

When he saw me he stared for a second, but I snapped him out of his daydream by saying:

"Let's get this over with, shall we?", my voice dripping with boredom. Zabini grabbed my arm and we led the way ahead of Malfoy and Parkinson. He annoyingly didn't let go of my arm until we got to the Great Hall. People were staring at me, which was getting annoying - I shrink away from attention - when I suddenly spotted Luna. I dragged Zabini with me towards her and we started up a conversation about her dad's newest find.

I looked her up and down - she looked stunning. Her dress was like liquid silver and it literally shimmered whenever she moved. Suddenly McGonagall came and we had to go into the hall so I grabbed Zabini's hand and we walked in quickly..
