I Am Lacerta Chapter 59

I stormed away from Ginny in an all too familiar frustrated mood of being in her prescence for too long.

"You know that was kind of noble, in a funny sort of way." said the ever-calm voice of Aoife O'Hara from beside me.

I jumped slightly and turned to see her looking worriedly at me.

"You scared me." I murmured, trying to change the subject.

"What happened between you two? You clearly know eachother fairly well, whether that's from hating eachother so long or not I don't know..." Aoife said, trying to make me talk.

"Nothing.. happened. It doesn't matter Aoife, so I wanted to introduce you to my godfather, I'm sure you've met him before - Severus Snape, then I'm thinking back to Hogsmeade to beg for my job back and one for you maybe? Seeing as you so badly don't want to-"

"Really? You'd ask for a job for me!? Lacerta that's so awesome! Yay, I can't wai-"

"Under one condition." I cut her off.

"What's that?" she asked warily, with good reason.

"You have to let me teach you to do dark magic." I said quickly.

"What!? Really Lacerta, I think that's a bad idea-"

"Well, I don't think it's a bad idea to teach you to defend yourself my way-"

"Just hear me out Aoife." I said wearily, begging her with my eyes. She sighed angrily but nodded as calmly as she could. "Think about it - you can't go on all my missions, soon you'll have to go on your own, you know. I can't defend you if I'm not there - and trust me on this, most death eaters won't be as understanding if you say you 'just can't do it' when it comes to the dark arts - most only join because we love doing the dark arts!  D'you understand now? I'm trying to protect you?"

"Let me get this straight. You're trying to protect me by teaching me how to attack people in the cruellest ways possible?" Aoife asked with a raised eyebrow.

I laughed humourlessly. "When you put it that way it sounds really stupid but it makes sense, Aoife it does. Think of it as self-defence.."

"Lacerta, I know what you're trying to do for me and I really, really appreciate it.. but have you met me? I couldn't hurt a fly! I'm rubbish at even defence against the dark arts - stunning's much too violent for me!" she said a small smirk on her face.

I laughed with much more vigor this time, a very uncharacteristicly genuine smile on my face. "Well, this is why I have to teach you lovely. It's all well and good when I'm there to help out, but when I'm not then, as much as it pains me to say it, you really are like a sitting duck!" I said seriously.

She sighed. "Fine. You can teach me. But.. can you ask to go on missions and be paired with me, so that I can be around you... I trust you with my life." she said solemnly.
