Chapter Twenty-two

Start from the beginning

Ten was one of them. There was no sign of Jennie. There were two other girls and another lanky guy aside from Ten. Then Lisa saw something that ignited her fury inside.

"We should get back to work-,.. hey, Lisa!" Rosé said, as she tried to grab the thai's shoulders but to no success. Lisa was able to slip past through her best friend and walked towards Ten, who was holding hands dearly and being affectionate towards an unfamiliar blonde girl.

"Ten!" Lisa must have shouted. The students looked at her like she was insane.

"Lisa-"

The thai didn't let Ten finish his statement as she pulled the hunk to the corner. They walked towards a corner where shelves of unused bowling balls were located.

Once out of earshot, Lisa hissed, "What are you doing? I thought you're a nice person. That's why I trusted you with Jennie. How could you do this to her?"

Ten was bewildered as he tried to get a grip of a panicking Lisa in front of him.

"Lisa, let me explain-"

"Please do, because I don't want to lie to Jennie. I saw what I saw, Ten-"

"Lisa, listen to me, Jennie and I broke up, okay?" Ten said loud and clear.

Lisa took time to register what had been said. She thought, for a moment, the guy was just joking.

"What? When? Why?" Lisa lost her voice as she froze.

"I... she said... she said that it was no longer working out between us.. that Jennie wanted to find herself... it was a long time ago, Lisa, she broke up with me during my Christmas trip in Busan.."

Lisa could sense a tone of hurt from Ten's voice. "But I saw you almost naked in our apartment after the holidays-"

Ten chuckled. "It was a mistake. Jennie and I met for closure. Then she said she was lonely and sad and she started kissing me like I was someone else... Lisa, trust me, we both stopped before it happened, and she pushed me away from her then I ended up falling on the floor, spraining my ankle, that's why I went to the kitchen to grab some ice.. Lisa, I swear to you.. I didn't do anything wrong."

But Lisa was lost at the moment, she heard every word.

"Why didn't she say anything?" Was all Lisa had managed to say.

Ten sighed as he calmly answered, "I don't know."

Same day, nighttime
Coffee shop nearby

"Sorry, I'm late," Lisa gasped after kissing Irene's cheek. "Got caught up at work." Lisa was unstable an hour earlier upon hearing Ten's revelation about Jennie. Why hadn't Jennie told her the truth?

"It's okay, Lisa," Irene said. "It's not like you're going to be in trouble."

Lisa chuckled nervously as she took a seat in front of Irene, dropping her backpack on the table. The place was almost empty at the moment. There were a few students gathered around one table with laptops in front of them, probably doing their thesis. "Did you order already?"

"Yeah, just a couple of minutes ago." Irene pulled out her book as she started reading her homework. "Hope you don't mind I brought-"

"No, it's okay..." Lisa answered. I need to talk to Jennie when I get home, Lisa thought. She hoped the brunette was still awake by then.

"Now that we've already set some terms into this whole dating thing," Irene suddenly said, startling Lisa from her trance. "Is there a chance I can get to read your book?"

Lisa froze on her spot. What if Irene would figure out that Lisa had been nothing but a hopeless being, who's in love with her roommate?

"It's still in the editing process.. Professor Sungri just informed me earlier," Lisa reasoned out. Then as if saved by the bell, the barista of the coffee shop had arrived with their order.

The barista's familiar voice shook Lisa on her seat. "Here's your or... Lisa?"

Brown eyes met hazel ones. Suddenly, the atmosphere around them had gone so thick. "Jennie? What are you doing here?"

"I... I work here..," the shorter brunette replied, as she slowly placed the orders on the table.

"Since when?" Lisa tried to sound casual, but her voice was failing her.

"Just last week, I-"

"You two know each other?" Irene suddenly asked. Lisa almost forgot Irene was right there.

"Yeah, I'm Jennie," Jennie smiled, shaking Irene's hand. "Lisa's roommate. And you must be Irene.. Lisa.. Lisa here told me a lot of stuff about you."
