Ryan’s POV

As I walked back to Callie, I couldn’t help but feel that I was going to lose her tonight one way or the other. I noticed that the King’s eyes held glints of hope and that Draco had been standing in the room as well. I knew that whatever was going to happen, it would have a huge impact on both Callie and me.

“Callie. Callie!” I call out to her and she leaves the small group of wolves. “What did my dad want?”

“He wants me to bring you to him. He’s in his office with some high ranked vampire.” When she gasps, I look at her confused. “Vampires exist too?” She sounded excited and I just laughed. “Well, we’re here aren’t we? Why can’t vampires exist as well?”

“This is freaking awesome. I’ve always wanted to meet a vampire.” I just laugh softly and lead her into the house. She never ceased to amaze me. I only hoped that whatever got the King’s hopes up would work. Or he would be devastated for life.

Callie’s POV

I was elated at the thought of meeting a vampire. Next to werewolves, they were one of my favorite supernatural creatures. When I was younger, I wondered what it would be like to have that kind of speed and strength. But now, now I’m glad that I’m a werewolf. Even if it wasn’t for long.

As I followed Ryan to my father’s office, I couldn’t help but wonder how Thane’s wedding went and if my mother and stepfather went. Just as we reached the door, a wave of shame rolled over me, but I knew that it came from Thane. Something or someone was upset with him big time.

Ryan opened the door and we walked forward. Dad introduced the vampire as Draco, his best friend. I looked at him trying to judge his age. While he didn’t look that much older than me, he had an air about him that suggested he was well over 200 years old. The room was as silent as a tomb as we stared at each other.

“Callie sweetheart, there might be a way to keep you from dying when your mate marks another tonight.” I look at my father feeling very confused. “What do you mean Daddy?”

“Draco here is what we call an original, one of the very first vampires. There kind has a ceremony known as a Transfer. In the moment that your mate marks the woman, Draco can mark you, which will transfer the mate bond to him. You can accept the new bond, or reject it. But…” I look at him as he took a shaky breath. “But there’s a chance that you could become a vampire as well. Draco’s venom will be in your blood, but we’re not sure if you will turn or not.

“The choice is really up to you Callie. If you choose, then Draco will perform the Transfer, but if you don’t…” My father’s voice broke several times and I watched as he started crying. “If you don’t, then I promise not to leave your side until you take your final breath.”

I could feel everyone’s eyes on me as I stared at my father. It was a little unnerving, especially since Draco hadn’t stopped staring at me since I first entered the room. “I’d..I’d like a moment to myself please.” I mutter before walking out of the room and quickly entered my room. Closing the door behind me, I slip out onto the balcony and faced the setting sun.

The bond was fading again, but it would be several minutes before it was gone. Thane, are you there?

What do you want? I slide to the floor, my arms wrapped around my legs and my chin resting on my knees. I met Callie once. What would have happened between the three of you if she hadn’t gotten kidnapped?

I’m not sure. She loved Rose like a sister, as did Rose. But me, I loved her; I was in love with her. But over the years, I found that love moving towards Rose. There were so many days that I wanted to give up, but she pushed me on. But the second I saw Callie, everything I ever felt for her came rushing back to me.

She loved you too you know? The only thing that kept her sane was the thoughts of seeing her family and you again.

You seem to know an awful lot about Callie.

I was held with her for a few years, so we got to know each other rather well. She helped me escape but made me promise her to never come back. When I finally found that place again, she was gone.

We found her and brought her home. But now she’s gone again.

How was the wedding?

It was fine. The reception’s almost over.

Before I go, there’s something you should know Thane.

What’s that?

I found a way to keep from dying when you mark Rose. But I’m not sure if it will work. But if it does, you’ll feel the bond being pulled from your soul and wolf. I just wanted to give you a head’s up.

So you found a way to make me feel what you’re feeling huh?

Good bye Thane. He started to protest as I felt the bond fade. Jumping to my feet, I run back to my dad’s office. “I’ll do the ceremony Dad.”
