Chapter 18 - Double Date

"Y/N, there you are!" He calls me over. "I went in to check for Keiko and Jun but I couldn't find them."

"They're not here yet. We're waiting for them."

"How long will they be?" A taxi pulls around the corner with two familiar females sitting in the passenger seats. Right on time.

"They're here."

The taxi door closes and the girls walk up to us.

"What are they doing here?" Kureha and Akira both ask. 

"Is it not obvious?" You ask them.

"It is..." Akira sighs. "I'm just hoping that I'm wrong. You sly dogs."

"After you two." You and Shino step back and let the two enter the familiar scenery.

"You look great, by the way." You say to Shino.

"Thanks. You look dashing, yourself." Shino says. "Shall we?" She sticks out her hand for you to grab. You do so and head into the restaurant.

"Table for four, please." You say to the familiar receptionist.

"Do you have a reservation?" He asks.

"Y/N L/N."

"Right this way." He says after checking his computer. You are led to a table with four seats. Everyone sits down and orders their food.

(Kureha's IRL name is Momiji Takamine)

Your food has been delivered, but there was still an uncomfortable silence between Akira and Kureha. This isn't going how we planned. Maybe it's because Shino and I are here?

"I'm going to head to the restroom for a bit." You say, tapping Shino's shin with your foot. You signal her to follow you.

"I'll do the same." You both exit your seats and head in the direction of the bathroom.

Without entering, you and Shino hide behind a small counter next to the bathroom and watch Akira and Momiji.

"They still aren't speaking to each other." Shino sighs. "Was his a bad idea?"

"I'm not giving up yet. Do you have a piece of paper and a pen?" Shino shakes her head. 

Dammit. You look around and see a small napkin. "That'll do." You continue your search and see a pen in the pocket of a rather smart-looking gentleman. "Excuse me, sir. May I borrow your pen for a second?" He obliges and hands you the pen. You scribble down a message onto the napkin. 'Speak to her! And don't say anything about the weather!' You hand the pen back to the man and roll the napkin into Akira's foot.

He notices and reads the napkin. Confused, he looks in your general direction. You signal him to talk. He nods and closes his eyes, seemingly taking a breath. He starts to speak - although you're too far away to hear - and Momiji does the same.

"Nice job!" Shino complements. "Look like we did it. They seem to be having fun. Do you want to head back?"

"Not yet. Let them talk a bit more. Plus, I really do need to head to the restroom."

You both head back to the table a few minutes later. The two seemed to be laughing at something. You smile to yourself, proud that you could repay the debt to your friend.

You all finish your meals and exit the restaurant.

"Did you get along?" You ask Akira while Shino and Momiji were chatting.

Akira chuckles in response. "I should've known. There's no way Silica would go on a date. She's way too starstruck over Kirito." You laugh at his brutal honesty. "Thanks, by the way. I had a great time."

"No problem. We're each other's wingmen." You pat Akira on the back. You slide a small box into Akira's pocket. "Give that to her before she leaves. Shino helped me pick it out earlier over the phone. Also, you owe me ¥15,000."

"You've thought of everything, haven't you?"

"Well, you helped me with Shino. I thought I'd return the favor."

"Y/N, can you come here for a moment?" Shino asks.

"What's up?" Shino reaches into her handbag and pulls out a small box, handing it to you. It had the word 'AUGMA' imprinted on the side.

"I remember you saying that you didn't have an AUGMA so I thought to get you one so it would be easier to talk to Yuuki and Yui."

"Ah!" You scream. "I'm so sorry! I was so fixated over the other two that I didn't think to get you anything! I'm so, so sorry!"

"It's fine. You didn't need to get anything."

"I still feel really bad!"

"Well, if you feel that terrible, how about you come to my house for the night and we watch a few movies?"

"Alright. I'll think of something to get you in the meantime."

"I told you, you-"

"WAHOO!" Akira cuts Shino off. Both of you are looking at him with concern. You see Momiji walking away with a bright smile and a red face.

"What happened to you?" You ask.

"I think she really likes me!" His smile didn't waver. "She gave me a kiss!" He pointed to his right cheek."

"Good job!" You pat his back.

"Nice one!" Shino complements. "It's good to see that even an obnoxious person like you can get a girlfriend. It gives me more hope for the rest of the human race."

"Nice try, but nothing's bringing down my mood!"

I apologize if I messed parts of this chapter up. I kind of rushed it. More context on the next chapter.
