My Only One

Chapter 3

After a moment of going back and fourth of debating on if this was real or not, I just smiled and shook her hand. "I'm glad that we can make up. Maybe we can catch up sometime."

"Of course," she said. "Thank you for coming." I nodded as Jack walked down next to me with the kids and sleepy eyes. Sarah looked to him as she smiled. "Oh, my... your kids are getting so big! They are so adorable!" She squealed. "Thank you again for coming," she said.

We headed home, put the kids in their pajamas and then put them to bed. Jack and I were still feeling pretty awake, so we took out some personal time with each other. Must have been getting out and seeing all the people, because he was friskier than usual. I kind of liked it.

After we played around, we laid next to each other and smiled. "That had a pretty good turn out," Jack said.

I blushed slightly, "I know. We need to get you out a little bit more if that's how you're going to act," I chuckled some.

Jack turned to me and rested his head on his hand and rubbed my sunk in stomach. "I meant the party, but yes. That was good as well," he said with a kiss.

Duh, the party. How stupid was I? "Yeah. That was good. I'm glad she's out and feeling better. Why did she go, anyway? Like, how did Matt find out?"

"No idea. All I know is that she was having a party at a friends house, Matt showed up and caught her doing drugs. They talked about it and things just got overly heated, I guess. But that's just what I heard."

I nodded. However it happened, it wasn't from me. We went to sleep and tried to rest for Thursday.

Conferences were today. I had to leave early from work, but before I left, I had to talk to Rose. See what she's got. At lunch, I knocked on her door and peaked my head in. "Hey. Can you talk?"

"Yeah!" She said with a mouth full of apple. "It's really funny. Every time, I took notes and this is what I have so far," she said as she handed me the book. There was only about a page and a half filled, but there was information that I would have never guessed. As I read, Rose told me about what she found out. "So, it turns out that she's thinking about leaving Alex if he doesn't do his 'husbandly duties' or whatever. She said that while Sarah was in rehab that they had gotten closer than before and had some really big plans coming up and that she needed to take a bit of personal leave. Then she asked me if I could do her job while she was away. This was after you asked me to do this. So she took yesterday and today off. And then she's off Friday and the weekend. I couldn't really find anything else out other than the fact that Alex hasn't really been close to her with the plans that he's got going on coming up," she just shrugged and finished her apple, throwing it away.

"Why would she take days off?" I asked.

"I don't know. She's weird, though. She's changed since I've been here. I know you two use to always be together and then at work y'all just kind of stopped. Hey, how was the party?"

"Yeah. I don't know. I really appreciate it. If you need anything from me, just let me know. The party was okay. Sarah came up to me and told me that she was sorry for what happened and wanted a clean start. I kind of got a weird vibe from it, to be honest... I don't know. I'll keep you updated, though. Uhm, I have to get back to my desk and finish up my days work. My kids have conferences tonight so I have to be there. Hopefully I can finish in time. Jack said that he's going to meet me at the school, so..."

"No, I get it. I'll stop by later at your desk to see if there's anything changed."

"I appreciate it. I really do, Rose. Might have to talk to Amy about getting you a better job around here." I had left to my desk and finished up my paperwork for the day and sighed.
