-"You never said anything about a syringe!" Elaine exclaimed.

-"I saved this part. The high tier tried to inject her with this. I don't know what it does. I at first knocked it out of the person's hand, but it miraculously didn't shatter as it hit the ground. As Sera brought us back, I picked it up."

-"In hopes that we could possibly find out what their motives were." Arlo answered.

-"Basically."

-"The problem is, the only who we know that could possibly know how to find that out is Doc... or the authorities." I flinched at the possibility of bringing her to the authorities. I don't trust them.

-"I'd prefer if we tried Doc first." I said hopefully.

-"I do too." Elaine commented.

"But, Arlo, I don't mean offense, but shouldn't we tell Remi and Blyke about this? They're royals after all, they should know."

-"I'm not sure that's a good idea." Arlo responded.

-"I don't either, but they still need to know. They don't even know I have an ability."

-"That's the problem, we can't just tell them everything tonight."

-"Arlo, they deserve to know." Elaine pushed.

-"We aren't telling them tonight." He spat out angrily. It's not like him to burst out. He really is unsettled by this. Elaine looked afraid, as if she just saw a monster. Arlo immediately noticed and calmed his expression.

"I apologize, Elaine. I didn't mean to burst out like that." Arlo apologized. Elaine muttered an ok.

-"It's okay, Arlo." I then went to change the subject.

-"If we tell them tomorrow, we should tell them in person."

-"Agreed."

-"I'm going to go bring Sera over to my bed, you two are gonna have to share the couch." Elaine of course still had a question.

-"What about you?"

-"I'll just bring a chair over and be by Sera."

-"Ok...That's sweet, John." I raise my eyebrow at her.

-"I didn't mean it like that! I just meant that you're a good friend, caring for her."

-"No, it's okay. Thank you for healing her. My ability is starting to strengthen again. I can feel it."

-"Ok."

-"See you two later." Arlo just nodded at me.

-"Byeee." I saw them discussing how to split the sofa when I entered the bedroom, and put Sera on my bed, covering her with a blanket. I pull up a chair, and wait by Sera, dozing off.

A Few Hours Later: 11:00 PM

I was woken up by slight movement, groaning, and then a soft voice.

-"John?"

-"Sera? You're awake!"

-"I'm assuming I'm still at your apartment?"

-"Yeah, I called Elaine and Arlo over. Elaine healed you, since my ability was still weak." She starts to get up.

-"I'm gonna go and get a drink." I grab her arm, and lead her back to the bed.

-"Sera, no. Do you know where you were stabbed? It punctured your kidney. You lost a lot of blood. I had to bandage you up before Elaine came. Your shirt and jacket were all bloodied, and I washed them for you. They're over there." I pointed to my desk, where I had them folded. I looked back and noticed she was blushing furiously.

"Oh, sorry, I just didn't want you to bleed out." I said the first part genuinely, but transitioned to a more sarcastic tone by the end of the sentence.

-"No, thank you. Really. I don't want to picture if I had lost more blood, or if Elaine took longer. Just embarrassed, is all."

-"It's fine Sera. I'll go get you a drink."

I leave to go get her some water, but by the time I'm back, she's passed out again. I sigh, putting down the water, sitting down next to her once again. I go and fall asleep, my head on the bed right next to her.

Midnight: 12:00 AM

??? POV

-"I followed the two back to this apartment, and they haven't left. Two more entered, and neither left. Send backup, I'm engaging the two that entered afterwards."

-"Copy that. One was confirmed to be a high-tier, take caution. Give us enough time and we'll get the job done."

John POV

Once again, I'm woken up. I hear loud noises from the living room, and I enter p*ssed.

-"Could you keep it-- What the h*ll?" I see Elaine clutching her bleeding arm, and Arlo in his barrier with another person, presumably interrogating him.

-"I think I found the culprit coming back to finish the job." Wait. Arlo has his barrier active, but I can't sense it. What's more, it doesn't look like Elaine is healing her wound very fast.

-"Who sent you after Sera and me?!"

-"You ain't getting nothin out of me." He spat. A bit of silence passes.

-"We're missing something. This person couldn't touch Seraphina."

If he isn't the one who attacked us, and our abilities seem weak. It's a distraction.

-"Sera!" I rush over to my bedroom, and as I enter, my window shatters with the entrance of a figure, purple eyes glowing. Sera is still out cold.

-"D*amn it." He mutters, revealing his voice. He makes a predictable dash to my right and I activate blyke's ability and shoot him. Instead of going clean through him, it knocks him back into my wall, causing a loud grunt on impact. It was my turn to mutter.

-"D*mn it." He uses his ability again and quickly dashes to my left. As I turn to the left, he makes a quick aided turn to my right. I quickly use some student's speed ability and Zeke's phase shift ability on offensive form to ram him into my wall. I deactivate the extra speed ability and use Blyke's ability with my hand on his gut. This time it does go clean through him, and he spits out blood right onto my face. It gets into my mouth and eyes, causing me to back off coughing.

He uses the opportunity to quickly grab Sera and jumps out the window. I hear curses behind me and notice Arlo had tried to put his barrier up. I jump out the window after the intruder. I chase after him and before the van can pick him up, I activate my barrier. The intruder turns around with Sera at knife point.

-"Not another step! Deactivate the barrier or she dies!" He threatens, pointing at Sera. That's when I realize that Sera isn't unconscious anymore. Her eyes are open, and she sees me. I turn around to Arlo about to jump out of the apartment window, with Elaine close behind. I turn back to the intruder.

"Tell your friends to stay put! I'll do it!" His grip tightens on Sera. I look Arlo and tell him to stand down.

Turning back to Sera, she's still playing possum, but her eyes are also still opened. She winks at me, mouthing trust me. I act like I'm begrudgingly standing down. I deactivate my ability.

The intruder lowers his knife, and Sera's eyes glow her signature blue.
