"Underground water is trying to escape through these vents, I need you guys to help it along." Jet explained.
"I've never used bending on water I can't see, I don't know..." She trailed off, looking down. Jet appeared behind her, hands on her shoulders and lips right at her ear, causing her to blush.
"Katara, you can do this." He said. I stuck my tongue out and looked at the sky. Sure, I was glad that they seemed to like each other, but I wasn't into all the mushy stuff.
"What about me?" Aang asked.
"I know the Avatar can do this." Jet said. He and I stepped back as Aang and Katara got to work bending the water from the vent. It took them a few tries, but eventually, they got it going.
"Awesome!" I said.
"Yes! Nice job, this river empties into the reservoir, a few more geysers and it'll be full." Jet said.
"Look, there's another steam vent." Aang pointed out.
"Okay, you two keep it up, I'll go check on things at the reservoir." Jet said. "Mari, your in charge here." I smiled boldly.
"When we're done we'll meet you over there." Katara suggested. My eyebrows furrowed as he tensed, his smile faltering. Something was wrong here, something bad.
"Actually, probably better if you meet me back at the hide out when your done." He said, quickly regaining his composer, before walking away. Aang and Katara quickly worked at the vents as I sat on the ground, Momo in my lap.
It didn't take long for them to finish.
"I think that's enough, and I 'm not just saying that to be lazy." Aang said, I stood, brushed off my pants, and walked over to them
"Great work you guys." I said, high-fiving Katara.
"Let's catch up with Jet at the reservoir." She suggested. I nodded in approval.
"I thought we agreed to meet Jet back at the hide out?" Aang said, a little confused.
"Well, we finished early," Katara said, rather proud of their work. "I'm sure he'll be happy to see us." We walked back the way we came and up to toward the cliff overlooking the reservoir. Along the way, I got caught on some thorns.
"Go on, I'll catch up." I said, trying to free myself. Aang and Katara went ahead while I detached myself from the briers, accidentally cutting my finger in the process. I stuck in in my mouth as I walked up to the cliff.
I heard the voices of Aang and Katara up ahead, but they didn't sound happy. The only words I was able to make out were the ones Aang said.
"Jet's going to blow up the dam." My heart skipped a beat and I froze for a moment. Jet wouldn't do that. He wouldn't, would he? No, Aang must have been mistaken. I jogged up just in time for Jet appear. His words knocked the breath from my lungs for a moment.
"Yes I would." He said.
"Jet..." I whispered. He didn't notice me in the shadows of the trees as he faced Aang and Katara.
"Why?"Katara asked.
"Katara, you would too if you just stop to think. Think about what the Fire Nation did to your mother, we can't let them do that to anyone else, ever again." Jet said.
"This isn't the answer!" Katara urged.
"I want you to understand me Katara, I thought your brother would understand but-" He moved toward her, hand raised to cup her cheek. Anger boiled inside of me and I pulled my bow to the front and knocked an arrow, stepping out and aiming it at his chest.
