"Today, we struck another blow against the Fire Nation swine!" He announced, holding his cup up in a toast. We all followed his lead, the kids around us cheering and pounding on the wood. "I got a special joy from the look on one soldier's face when the Duke dropped down on his helmet and rode him like a wild hog monkey." Jet said. The Duke stood and paraded around the table before sitting back down and allowing Jet to continue with his speech.
"Now, the Fire Nation thinks they don't have to worry about a couple of kids hiding in the trees, maybe their right." He said, pausing as boos thundered around us. He really knew how to get them riled up. "Or maybe, their dead wrong." The kids burst out in cheers and Jet returned to his seat between me and Katara.
"Wow Jet, nice speech." Katara said.
"Yeah, when did you get so great at public speaking?" I asked. Jet nudged me playfully.
"Thanks." Jet said. "By the way, I was really impressed by you and Aang, that was some great bending I saw out there today." I turned to Sokka who was furiously eating a piece of fish.
"You okay?" I asked, nibbling on a roll of bread.
"Fine." He huffed. I patted his knee before turning back to Jet.
"So, I might know a way you can help in our struggle." He told them. Sokka got up.
"Unfortunately, we have to leave tonight." He said, storming away. Tonight?
"Sokka, your kidding me, I needed you on an important mission tomorrow." Jet said, causing Sokka to stop. Jet sure had a way with words.
"What mission." Sokka asked, looking back over his shoulder. Jet smirked. After dinner, we went back to our tent and settled down, laying our sleeping bags out. I curled up on my side, but couldn't sleep, my head buzzing with indecisiveness. Do I stay with Jet or leave with Aang?
Tomorrow, I'd have to decide.
When I woke up, Sokka was already gone and Katara was making, a hat I think, out of leaves and flowers. I sat up and yawned, running my hands through my hair, attemping to tame it.
"Hey, where's Aang?"
"He's out running around." Katara replied.
"Ah, well, I'm off to shoot something." I said, grabbing my bow and arrows and walking out. I met Longshot along the way. "Hey, do you want to shoot with me?" I asked. He shurgged and we took aim at a tree. Longshot held a hand up to stop me and walked up to the tree and, using a knife, carved out a target for us.
We took turned shooting untill there was no room in the bulls eye left. I went up and pulled all my arrows out, putting them back in my quiver.
"Thanks Longshot." I said. He nodded and I headed back up to our tent. Sokka was already back when I arrived, sitting against the tree trunk. He looked angry, beyond angry. "Hey, you alright?" I asked, sitting in front of him.
"Your brothers a monster." He muttered.
"What?" I demanded, my eyes widening. I jumped to my feet in anger. "My brother isn't a monster Sokka! Don't accuse him of things just because you've got some male jealousy thing." I shouted. He stood up and got in my face.
"I'm not jealous of him! He attacked an innocent old man in the forest!" Aang and Katara appeared behind him, looking a little bewildered.
"What?" Katara asked. "I wanna hear Jet's side." I nodded in agreement and we all made our way to Jet's tent and demanded answers.
"Sokka, you told them what happened, but you didn't mention that the man was Fire Nation?" Jet said, sitting on his bed. I took a seat beside him.
