She exhaled and slowly tilted her head upwards; opening her eyes she looked into the darkened night sky. No stars. The luminescent moon that was so awake in the new dawn of the evening minutes before, now appeared tired as a tattered dark cloud wrapped itself around it tightly. A blanket. The rain was coming. Morier sighed and reached up pressing into the tree with long elegant slender arms, pushing off the trunk and stood in somewhat of an acrobatic movement her back arched as she rolled up into an upright position. Balancing she placed her right foot in front of her left; red stilettos so showy. Walking down the branch arms out on either side. The further she got out onto the limb the lower it would move towards the ground until it was touching. She stepped off and onto the pure white snow that covered earth below her, a ‘crunch’ as she perched. She removed both feet from the piece of nature as it slung back up into place, where it was meant to be. She was deep in the wooded land, where she loved to be, raking her fingers through her hair as she moved swiftly toward her cottage made of stone. Very small, consisting of a single room, with a single bedlike object, with a single pillow which was enough for the one person that she was. She was alone. As she had always been and she hoped it would stay that way.
Morier pressed the door open with a slight touch of her palm, and stepped inside slipping the crimson shoes from her feet and straightened out the black dress that clung onto her body before sitting down, as she did feathers puffed up from all around her. She threw herself backward and lay staring at the ceiling. It was made as a shelter, a covering, an escape. It hadn’t given her all she wished. She let her eyes close as a single tear made its way from her eye and pranced down her cheek. She would swear to it that her eyes just burned, it was a natural reaction. But she couldn’t lie to herself, what was the point? There was no way to escape the pain that sweltered inside of her. Her mind had drifted off exactly in the direction she hadn’t wanted it to… She could hear the scream…
