➵ Chapter 10 ➵

Start from the beginning

A rapid movement catches my eye and I move my gaze to find the tall twins waving for my attention. Once I meet their gazes they hold up the paper, then George acts out an explosion with his hand. My eyes widen, questioning. What are they thinking? They only smile and walk out of the Great Hall.

I stand, determined to find out what their up to, and start to make my way out of the Great Hall. As I turn the corner, I almost run straight into Malfoy, but I barely bat an eye.

"Watch it Mudblood," he hisses.

"You were in my way," I say simply, pushing him out of my way with my shoulder.

"Where are you going? Potions is the other way," he calls after me and I shake my head.

"Shouldn't matter to you," I shoot back and I turn a corner, his response disappearing unheard.

I walk down the corridor slowly, checking every classroom as I pass, determined to find the fiery hair twins.

As I walk past a broom closet, the door suddenly opens and two pairs of arms grab me, pulling me quickly inside.

I try to calm my racing heart as my eyes adjust to the darkness.

"Lumos," a familiar voice says and a light flickers on, revealing a grinning Fred and George.

"You couldn't have let me walk in here normally?" I ask, and George shrugs.

"But scaring you was better, your face was priceless."

I look around the dusty broom closet and notice that it's packed high with crates of all different colors and sizes.

"What is this place?" I ask.

"This, Foster, is where the magic happens," Fred says grandly and I raise an eyebrow.

Fred laughs, "No not like that..." He grins, "Although one time, I did—"

"NO NO NO," George says, cutting him off. "We don't need to hear that please and thank you."

I laugh, "So is this where you create all your special candies and whatnot?"

"This closet is the start for all our genius ideas," Fred says and George nods.

I look around for a moment longer than I ask,"Ok, what the hell was that explosion thing you did with your hands? I really don't want my school year cut short by two tall carrots exploding the school."

"Really? Carrots? You can do better than that," George says, shaking his head at me like I'm a toddler, and I glare at him.

Fred jumps in, "We're not exploding the school, Mum would have our heads, but we are using these."

He grabs a crate and drops it in my arms, and I almost let it fall through my arms due to the sudden weight. I peer in and see an abundance of bright red fireworks, each one a different height or width.

"Fireworks?" I ask, unimpressed.

"Oh don't look so disappointed there, Foster," George says, grabbing one. "These may be fun outside, but bring them inside, and they'll drive anyone mad, especially a certain pink toad."

They both smirk at each other, and they look so proud of themselves, it's hard for me not to laugh.

"Not to be a stick in the mud, I love the idea of annoying her, but if you do that, you're just asking to be expelled," I point out.

"Always the boring one," Fred sighs and I glare at him.

"I'm not being boring, I'm thinking logically," I cross my arms.

"Spoken like a true, annoying Ravenclaw," George adds and ducks to avoid my fist to his shoulder.

"Calm down there Foster, we're just joking," Fred laughs. "And we're not going to use these fireworks now, we just have them if things get any worse. Oh and we wanted to make sure we could count on you."

I looks between them, skeptical, "Count on me?"

"To help us put these in the Ravenclaw common room when needed," George explains.

I shake my head instantly, "No thank you, I don't want to get expelled like some people."

"Oh come on!" Fred exclaims. "It would be fun! Can't you imagine Umbridge's face? She'll be so mad."

I have to admit, just the thought of Umbridge's infuriated face tempts me to accept the job, but just as I start to day dream of the amusing tantrum she'll throw, my family's faces swim into my mind. I can't be expelled because Hogwarts is my last chance. After this, it's staying home indefinitely, surrounded by the burning glares of my parents.

I shake my head again, "No, I'm sorry, I'm sure you can find someone else. I'm sure Quinn would be more than willing to help."

They both sigh then Fred grabs the crate from my arm, placing it back in it's place.

"What do you have?" George asks, and I can tell he's a little disappointed.

I push open the door behind me and they follow as I answer, "Potions, how about you?"

"History of Magic," Fred groans.

"You should go, don't want to make Snape mad," George says, nodding in the direction of the potions classroom.

"Yeah, you're probably right," I say then I say one more time, "I'm sorry I couldn't help you guys, I just don't want to risk being expelled."

"It's fine Foster," Fred waves my apology away. "You just gave us another challenge."

"I did?" I asks, confused.

"Yeah," George answers. "Now we have to find what's stopping you from helping us..."

"And figure out how to get rid of it." Fred finishes and then they both turn, disappearing down the hallway.

I stare after them, bewildered by their response. I really should have expected this. If anything, the one thing I learned about the Twins, is that they never stop until they get what they want. It makes me wonder why they aren't in Slytherin...

I shake my head and turn, walking down the stone corridor. All I know is that they won't guess the reason.

I won't let them.
