"What's wrong with you?"
Quinn's voice wiggles it's way into my ears but I barely look up from the floor.
"Potions sucks doesn't it?" she sighs, sitting down on the bench next to me.
I nod and say tiredly, "Yup, and so does Malfoy."
"Ew, what did the ferret do?" she laughs a little and I look at her in confusion.
"Ferret?"
"Oh right, you weren't there." She turns to face me, a grin spreading across her face. "So last year, Potter and Malfoy were going head to head as they usually would in the courtyard, but this time a teacher intervened. And not just any teacher, it was the crazy teacher, the one that was actually a Death Eater? I'm sure you've heard of him." I nod, remembering the news that spread through the castle before we returned to Beauxbatons. "Well, he stepped in, and turned Malfoy into a ferret."
I break into a grin, "A ferret?!"
"Yes! A white ferret, tiny legs and all. It was the funniest thing ever."
We break into light laughter and I feel the heaviness that was resting on my shoulders lift a little, bringing my mood up with it.
Quinn checks her watch between laughs and stands,
"As much as I would love to stay and discuss Mr. Ferret, we should probably get to class, what do you have?"
I take a glance at my schedule, "Defense against the Dark Arts, what about you?"
"Ah damnit, I have history of magic."
We wave goodbye and as I walk away she calls after me, "Please come retrieve my body from the classroom after I die of boredom!"
I laugh, "I will!"
I turn a corner, following a route Quinn had shown me earlier and as I turn the final corner, I almost run straight into someone.
"Better watch where you're going Mudblood."
I look up to see the frozen eyes of Malfoy and I feel annoyance flare in my chest. I glare back coldly, fed up with him.
"Or what?" I snap back, already pushing him out of the way with my shoulder to get to the classroom behind him.
Before I can get far, I feel a tight hand on my shoulder and I'm spun around to look once more into that steely gaze.
"You think you're all that, don't you Mudblood?" he hisses, and I try not to waver under the cold glare. "It's simple really, stay out of my way."
I cross my arms, "I would gladly do just that if you didn't show up everywhere I go. So I'll stay out of your way once you stop trying to get in mine."
With those words, I turn, the movement releasing me from his grip and I stride into the classroom, still seething in annoyance.
I choose the first open seat I can see and drop my books on the desk, collapsing into the chair.

I hear someone collapse into the chair in front of me, and I look up to see the recognizable chocolate hair of the girl from the train.
I watch her as she busies herself with her book bag and I drift into my usual thoughts. Who is this girl? She seemed to have showed up out of nowhere, out of the blue, in that compartment. She's just a transfer, we've had those before, they aren't unheard of, but for some reason, she fascinates me. The way in which she speaks and carries herself is so different from the other people I know. She doesn't seem to want to reveal anything about herself, she's secretive about every little thing.
