I Once Had A Friend

I once had a friend 

She was like everyone else

Until you got to know her

She stood up for the things 

She barely knew about

But only because the people who believed in it 

Couldn't stand up for themselves

She had her own unique beliefs

As everyone does

And she stood up for the things she believed in 

So confidently

But never forced her agenda on someone else

She indulged those who were interested

But polite enough to respect others' beliefs

Sometimes she was insecure about what she believed in

Because she was a people-pleaser

I once had a friend

She stayed away from the crowd

Confident and strong 

She wasn't afraid to make her opinion known

She was beyond this world

And she hardly cared what others thought of her

But she was ignorant

And people thought her cocky

She knew what strangers thought

But she didn't care

Because she was passionate

I once had a friend

She reached for Jupiter

And fell among the stars

Everything she did, 

Was perfect compared to everyone else

Everyone thought she was stuck up and haughty

But she kept her head up

In truth,

She was one the kindest souls

Anyone could ever meet

She knew no limits

While others made them for her

She tried not to listen

She tried not to feel alone

But it was hard

Because she was insecure

I once had a friend

She was quiet as a mouse

You'd barely know she was there

But her mind was as loud

As she was quiet

Her voice came through her actions

But whenever she tried to speak 

She was told to stay quiet 

She wasn't liked by many people

I can't imagine why

She was so loyal

And creative

But no one ever saw

They thought she was broken

But she was so alive

That you could practically hear music 

When she walked by

But no one knew

Because she was an introvert

I once had friends

Who were all as different

As the moon and the sun

They hardly agreed

And they were blurs in a crowd

But if you got to know my friends

You'd know that each one

Was strong,

Beautiful,

Kind,

Unique,

Funny,

And Intelligent

Because they were,

And so are you
