"Aww," said Max. "This is no fun."
"Just because I'm winning?" Ruby giggled. "I mean, if there's anything else you wanna play."
"How about checkers? That's something that we can at least play a little longer and that I'm good at!"
"We'll see about that," Ruby said.
The scene cut to the two bunny siblings playing checkers on the same nightstand next to Ruby's bed.
"King me!" said Max. "Ha, that's three kings I've got to make in this game!"
"I've still currently got four," said Ruby. "You just currently have the one. Now it's my turn... And a one, and a two, and a three," she said as she triple jumped Max's last few pieces. "And that's game."
"What? Boo!" Max interjected. "I'm going downstairs!"
"Enjoy yourself little bro!" Ruby said as she laid back down and picked up her magazine again. "While I enjoy myself."
Max was aggravated that he could not do any fun physical games or activities with his sister. He felt bummed that she could not horse around with him like she usually does. Ruby herself enjoyed the extra relaxation, as it meant to her that she would not have to constantly look after her little brother.
That evening, as Max and Ruby were getting ready for bed, Max, in his Superbunny pajamas, put away his toy airplane and went to brush his teeth for the night. He saw his mother standing outside the bathroom.
"Ruby is still in the shower?" Max said. "She's taking a lot longer than usual!"
"Well, it's pretty hard to take a shower when you have wear a cast. She has to wear a waterproof plastic bag over it and hold on to the handles to balance on her one fully functioning leg."
"But why are you standing outside the bathroom?" Max asked.
"In case Ruby..."
"Woah!!" shouted a voice from inside the bathroom followed by a thud.
"... falls down in the shower," Mrs. Bunny finished her sentence.
"Mom?!" called Ruby from inside. "Mom?!
"Be right there!" Mrs. Bunny said through the door. "You're gonna have to wait a little longer to brush your teeth, Max." As she entered the bathroom to help Ruby stand back up in the shower, Max headed downstairs feeling annoyed again. He saw his father setting his coffee maker to brew the next morning.
"I don't like Ruby's cast," Max said with an annoyed expression.
"Oh?" said Mr. Bunny turning around to see his son standing there in his Superbunny pajamas. "And why is that?"
"She can't do anything fun with me! And she's getting special treatment from you guys! And now she's hogging the bathroom!" He crossed his arms he was so ticked off.
"Well, I can promise you that it is not going to be like this forever," said Mr. Bunny. "Besides, how do you think she feels? She would much rather not have a cast on her leg."
"She cried pretty loud at the playground today," said Max. "Did it really hurt that bad?"
"Oh yes it did," said Mr. Bunny. "I remember when I broke my arm when I was little. It hurt a lot."
"So much that you had to wear a cast too?"
"Yep. I had to wear it for six weeks. Your sister only has to wear hers for five. The only other difference was that it was my arm, so I didn't need crutches to get around."
"I wish Ruby didn't need crutches for her broken leg," said Max in a humble tone.
"I know it stinks that Ruby can't play with you, but hey, in the meantime, you've got plenty of friends now who can play with you. Morris, Lily, Winston, and Priya."
