Chapter 5: He should ask her

Hanako was sitting in one of the stalls all  quiet

He suddenly heard knocking on the door

Hoshiko: Number 7 are you in there?

The boy stands up and peeks through the door

Hanako: That's not how you summon me you know also, stop calling me that.

Hoshiko: Whatever you say Number 7^^

He steps out of the stall and fixed his wrinkled up clothes

Hanako: You really like getting on people's nerves don't you?

Hoshiko: Correction: I really like getting on your nerves

The girl giggles

Hanako: So what are you doing here?

Hoshiko: Just going to check something off my list

Hanako: Is that so? Well, if you're looking for Yashiro, I'm sorry but she's still in class

Hoshiko: That's okay, I wasn't looking for her anyway

Hoshiko puts her hand in her pocket trying to look for something. She pulled out her list and shows Hanako a specific line written on the paper 

Hoshiko: I'm here to play with you! So are you up for a good card game?

Hanako nods to agree as Hoshiko proceeds to sit by the windowsill. She takes out a stack of cards from her pocket like some kind of magician and shuffles them before handing them out.

The two ghosts play a few rounds of the game while casually talking about random topics. After a few minutes they ran out of things to talk about and it was awkwardly silent. It was Hoshiko's turn in the game so she was really focused. Hanako who was waiting for her to make a move was caught in his own thoughts…

There was something he wanted to ask her but seemed too nervous to even speak up. After a few moments, he snapped back to reality. Literally, because Hoshiko was snapping her fingers in front him checking if he was still conscious.

Hoshiko: Hey, are you still there? You look distracted

Hanako: Oh, I'm fine

Hoshiko: Looks like you're really into the game huh?

Hanako: Of course! Can't let you beat me haha..

He was thinking really hard about this

Maybe he should ask her

It's not like they're complete strangers. What could possibly go wrong?

Hanako: Well actually Hoshiko.. there was something I wanted to ask you

Hoshiko: Then ask away 

Hanako: Do you… like.. Do you like Yashiro? As my assistant?

The girl was silent. That was unexpected.

Hoshiko: Are you asking for my blessing or what? I'm not really your mom so I don't know why you're asking me.

Hanako: Would you take this seriously for once?

Hoshiko: ... Oh, okay

She turns her attention back to the cards in her hand and doesn't say anything else

Hanako: Aren't you going to say anything?

Hoshiko: No comment.

Hanako: What do you mean no comment??

Hoshiko: I mean no comment

Hanako was getting really frustrated since she was obviously avoiding the question.
