Chapter 42 - Small Spaces and Red Faces

Start from the beginning

"Hey," you say, nudging his leg with your foot. "Thor?"

Thor startles at your touch. "Oh, Lady Y/n, hello," he says.

For a moment, Thor is quiet. It's awkward.

"Are you okay?" you ask, reaching out and placing your hand on his. He instinctually interlaces his fingers with yours, giving you a sad smile.

"Me? I fare well, aye," Thor responds.

"Oh, okay. Good." You sit in silence with him for a few more minutes. "Are you sure?"

Thor lets out a sigh. "Why do you think Heimdall left me behind?" Thor asks, pulling his hand from yours.

"What?" his question takes you by surprise.

"I am assuming you called to him. That you asked him to bring me to you. Is that right?"

You nod.

"Then why is it that once you determined where my brother was located, he left me behind, and sent only you?"

You think for a moment, pondering Thor's question. You hadn't really thought about it. In fact, you had almost forgotten that Thor had been with you on the balcony at all. But you suppose that Thor has every right to feel angry. After all, he was worried about his brother as well. And then to just be left behind to wonder if things had worked out? That was almost...cruel.

"I'm not sure," you say.

"Could he think I do not care for his safety? For his wellbeing?" Thor questions, his voice weaker than it should be. "Does he not know that I love him? That I worry for him?"

"I'm sure he know that, Thor," you frown.

"Then why?" he urges.

"I don't know," you answer honestly. "But...I trust Heimdall's judgment. And I think that's what's important."

"How do you mean?"

"Well, think about it," you urge. "He is all knowing. All seeing. All hearing. Right?"

Thor nods.

"Then I think we have to assume that he knew something we didn't. Something about what could have, or would have happened if you had gone with me."

"I simply don't understand," Thor laments. "Does he think I would have harmed my brother? That I would have forsaken him?"

You sigh. "I don't think so, Thor. But...maybe you should ask him one day. And until then, I say we trust him. You said yourself he works in mysterious ways."

"Very well. I can at least trust you, and that is enough for me," Thor says with a somber smile.

You lean forward giving Thor a hug, which he returns. But only for a moment before you're being tugged away from the blonde god.

"I do not very much care to watch you embracing my woman, brother," sneers Loki, who takes your hand and gently pulls you away from Thor.

"She can choose who she wishes to embrace, Loki," calls out Thor, but Loki has already pulled you several seats away.

"Um, what the hell was that?" you ask him.

"What was what?" Loki croons, pulling you into his arms.

"That little stunt you just pulled?" you frown.

"I don't know what you're talking about," says Loki nonchalantly.

"'I do not very much care to watch you embracing my woman'  I mean, come on Loki," you retort.

"It is true. You are mine, and mine alone," Loki frowns.

You find yourself growing irritated. You try to pull yourself out of Loki's grip, but he tightens his hold and tries instead to catch you in a kiss. But you turn your cheek, earning a hum of disapproval from your raven-haired god.

"Okay there's something you and I need to get straight right here, right now," you say, a hint of venom in your voice. "I can touch, hug, speak to, and spend time with anyone I damn well please, and you have no say in that. Got it?"

Loki eyes you, but says nothing.

"Good," you say, finally extricating yourself from his arms and straightening your shirt. "Now, I was in the middle of a conversation, and I want to go sit with Thor to finish it. You're welcome to join us."

Loki huffs and takes a seat in a nearby seat as he shoots you a glare - squarely away from Thor.

You roll your eyes. "Fine. Be stubborn. I'll see you when we land, okay?" you question, your tone softening as you place a gentle, lingering kiss on his cheek. "And if you change your mind, I'll save you a seat," you say, offering him a gentle smile before returning to your seat across from Thor, settling in for the remainder of the flight.
