(Serenity's POV)

I stared at the window; crying. Remembering what just happened. Why am I not good enough for the world? I did everything they wanted me to do. I listened and obeyed. Yet they throw me out with the rest of them. Why can't I just fit in.

"SERENITY!!!" my father yelled from downstairs. I hesitated to go down there, but if I don't I will be punished. I went downstairs and looked at my father. He glared and growled,

"What took you so long!"

"I'm sorry I was just..."

"SHUT UP!!!" I stepped back and said,

"Ok.......I just..."

Smack! I felt him slap me across my cheek. It stings but I bite my tongue ignoring the pain. He hit me again. Ignoring the burning pain. He hit me one more time and the force was so strong that I was slammed against the wall. I looked at him, shocked; scared; not knowing what he will do next.

Then right as he grabbed my neck and was choking me, my twin brother, Marcus, comes walking in and says,

"Hey guys how's it... Oh my gosh!! DAD!! What are you doing!!"

"Teaching your sister a lesson," he said as he smirked at me.

My eyes widened as I gasped for air. Marcus tried to push him away, but he was too strong. He kicked and punched but he wouldn't budge. My vision was slowing fading away. Marcus kicked dad's foot and he yelped in pain.

As he stumbled away, he let his strong grip on my neck loose. I fell on the ground; coughing; gasping for air. I managed to croak out to Marcus,

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm always by your side," he said.

Dad got to his senses and looked at us. And by the looks of it he wasn't too happy.

"This is the part where you two run," he said with an evil grin.

Marcus and I looked at each other before running back up the stairs. We finally got to my room, shutting the door and locking it. We heard dad banging on the door shortly after, demanding us to let him in. We knew that we needed to think fast. We both grabbed a backpack and put anything that would come in handy. We weren't coming back for a while. He made sure that dad couldn't get in while I opened the window. We finally got ready and we jumped out. We have sneaked out a couple of times so when we landed, it was like the pain wasn't even there. As we were running away from our house, we hear the sound of a door breaking and our father screaming,

"I WILL FIND YOU, AND YOU'LL NEVER BE SAFE!!!"
