Our legends tell us that the sun god, Raskäl, lassoed the sun and pulled it from the sky. Then, he locked it away as punishment on the humans for their disobedience. I often wonder what the humans had done to deserve being plunged into darkness. Why did they upset Raskäl? Why did he take our sun?

More often than that, though, I wonder what a sun looks like. I've seen the drawings, but my ubï and unï claim that they could never compare. Unï tells me that it was a mass of fire in the sky. Ubï always argues with her, telling me that the sun wasn't so primitive. He claims it was a creature so kind it radiated light and shared its warmth with the people of Kä. Ubï says that Raskäl was less of a god than he was the sun's owner, just as a human owns a dog.

I've always been jealous of them. They've seen the sun, while I have not. The world was plunged into darkness when they were my age. As the story goes, one night they went to bed and the next morning... it wasn't morning. To me is seems so peculiar to wake in a world that is anything but darkness, for that is all I know. The moon is the only friend we have in the sky. Ubï and unï claim that the moon was once bright like the sun. They say that in her friend's absence she has gone dark, mourning the loss of her companion.

That is how my life began; utter darkness. It is most likely how my life will end, too. We the people of Kä are not sure what we did to deserve this punishment, therefore we do not know how to resolve it.
