I should begin this story with the worst thing to happen in my life. The day my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer.
Dammit Dad! Why'd you have to be a smoker.
Knowing my family couldn't afford chemo all we did was wait for the inevitable and what honestly frightened me more than losing my dad was being left alone with my mom.
Everything would quickly go to shit if that ever happened. I had no siblings to help ease the burden that is Stella Cooper.
Dad always kept her in check.
The next day everyone put on a happy face and pretended like nothing was happening and that honestly scared me more than the thought of losing my dad.
As I got ready for school I stared at my reflection in my mirror carefully combing my long curly brown hair and I looked in my eyes through the reflection and for a second I forgot everything. I was just blankly staring at my reflection.
"Lily! Breakfast!" My mom called snapping me from my trance.
I left and went directly to the front door.
"Aren't you having breakfast? I made blue berry pancakes." she said.
"No I'm already late I'll grab a bite on the way there." I said as I left for school.
Another element of my life I find unsavory. Baxter high. I don't hate school I just don't like the people who attend it. More specifically the evil scourge who disturbs the balance of peace at this school but we'll get to that.
As I walked towards the doors of Baxter high I saw my three favorite people standing there waiting for me. These three guys were the people I mostly associated with.
My fashion advisor and close gay friend Liam Jackson. It's a pity he's gay cause he is so gorgeous. Those dark brown eyes, the wavy hair to match and he was built well.
My other friends were Kira Thompson and Lyla Jenkins. My best friends since kindergarten. Lyla was secretly my favorite and she looked wonderful with her new hair style. She had braided hair with white highlights. Finally there's Kira who is undoubtedly the best at pep talks and the only one of us with green eyes and a relation to the devil.
Now earlier I mentioned a scourge that plagued the school well this scourge has a name. It's name is Angela Thompson. A girl who makes blondes look bad. She might've had blue eyes but her heart was as black as coal. She was the daughter of local kingpin Elijah Thompson and Kira's half sister.
Her name might've been Angela but she was no angel heck she was a demon scratch that she was the devil in mortal form. She was also unfortunately the student body president and the leader of the cheer squad. The Sirens.
Everyone feared her or more specifically her father. She always got whatever she wanted and ruled the school with a ruthless iron fist.
"Don't look now. It's Satan." Liam said to us in hushed tones.
"Hey that's my sister." Kira defended her.
"Half sister." Lyla added
Kira shot Lyla a death glare.
Angela strutted through the halls backed by her worshippers and stopped right in front of us.
"Hello dear sibling and others. Just stopped to let you know mother won't be picking us up today." she told Kira.
"I know she texted me so what'd you want?" Kira asked her in a cold tone.
"I was going to extend an offer to drive you home but then again it seems as if walking will do you some good." Angela said to Kira and then turned to face Liam.
"If this devil ever hears you talk about her she'll show you hell like you've never seen it before." Angela told him and I swear he almost peed himself
After the talk she walked away and I went into my office at the school paper. The Red and blue. I usually did puff pieces and stuff like that.
" Hello miss editor. "A familiar voice said to me and I instantly recognized it.
" What'd you want Angela? I'm busy. "I said to her.
" Just to tell you that young Kyle is looking a bit worse for wear. I suggest you talk to him before we all end up in jail. " She said to me her face completely serious.
Now you might be wondering what did she mean by 'end up in jail' it'll make sense as we continue.
I left my office in a hurry and Angela wasn't lying Kyle was shaking and he was sweating.
I walked up to him and looked at his hazel eyes.
"Kyle let's go to my office we need to talk." I said to him
I led him by the hand to my office and sat him down on one of the chairs.
"I-I can't do this anymore Lily. We killed someone. I can't sleep. I can't eat. We have to confess." He told me.
"Kyle listen to me. Angela killed someone we just disposed it plus they'll never find the body so please promise me you'll keep this between us." I said to him as calmly as possible then I pulled him into a hug and stroked his red hair.
"Y-yeh you're right." he said having composed himself.
Now you know my little secret. I helped bury a body this summer and I did it to keep myself and my friend out of jail. This little town of Avondale may look perfect with the perfect residents and quiet neighborhoods but not everything is as it seems. I buried a body and I have no regrets. I'd do it again if it meant protecting those I love.
