What if? (Alternate ending to The Bucket List)

Wedding time.

We got down and my eyes met Damon’s. Time stopped while his lips formed the most beautiful smile and his face lit up. He walked towards me and kissed me urgently, his hands on my waist, his smile still apparent while he was kissing me.

“You look so beautiful.” He whispered, his lips just inches away from mine. “And damn if I’m not the happiest man in the world right now.”

“Aah don’t make me cry, this makeup took forever to apply!” I protested, wiping off a few tears. “How’s Seth?”

“He calmed down when I reminded him Jenny is kind of hot.”

I laughed and he took my hand in his. We would soon be the next ones to walk down the aisle. The wedding was held in a magnificent chateau decorated by Jenny’s aunt’s expert hands. My parents were the second couple to walk down the aisle, then a few more and then Damon and I did. He looked to darn handsome in his suit!!

Seth was at the altar, looking as happy as he had ever been. It was so strange to see him in his suit, about to get married to my best friend, but I couldn’t have been happier for them. Damon kissed me before letting go of my hand to get placed on Seth’s left while I was going on the right, next to the bridesmaid. Then the famous first notes started playing and everyone rose from their seats while the doors opened to Jenny, looking so extraordinary beautiful in her wedding dress, with little girls throwing petals in front of her. I looked at Seth and saw that he was wiping a few tears from his eyes with the back of his hand. It made my heart melt to see him so emotional. This was not a side of him you could see often. Jenny arrived next to him and they smiled to each other like they were the only two people in the room.

The priest cleared his throat and began his speech but Seth eye’s never left Jenny’s. I saw Damon staring at me and it took me all the strength in the world not to run to him. I smiled at his loving eyes and almost cried with the emotion, my hands landing on my baby bump again for just a few seconds. Damon’s face lit up with the brightest smile when it did.

When the priest’s speech was done, it was time for Jenny and Seth to read their vows. Jenny started.

“Seth Clark. You are literally the craziest person I’ve ever meet, and that’s saying something coming from me. At the start, you were just my best friend’s brother but it didn’t last long before you became something more. You made me laugh, and I couldn’t ignore my feelings anymore so we… sort of started seeing each other.”

I laughed silently, knowing what it meant in their language.

“We didn’t do things in order but it all turned out great because here we are now and I couldn’t be happier. You’re the right guy for me and I knew that as soon as you wiped off my tears on our second date and bought me brownies.”

He laughed, taking her hand in his.

“It may not be safe for society to put two weird and crazy people like us together for eternity but fuck them, we love each other and, come on, we are such an awesome couple, every one wish they could have what we have, right? Except maybe for Damon and Leah cause those two are perfect for each other too but whatever.” She smiled at me. “I kind of suck at giving speeches so just know that I love you Seth and I’ll always let you do dirty things to me.”

Seth winked at her, I laughed, and I think the other people did too but I didn’t really care to know. It was Seth’s turn now.

“You know, love is a strange feeling. You don’t really know you’re in love… until you do. And I think I realized it was more than just a fling when I told you about my deepest fear, this night at the chalet. Remember?”

Jenny nodded, smiling, the emotion visible.

“I knew I loved you, not just because you are sexy as hell, funny, quirky and cheeky and smart, but mostly because you understood me. You didn’t try to change me. You took it all in and, that, ladies and gentlemen, is what love is all about.”
