The Worst Boss

*alarm sounds*

I turn over and hit snooze. I was up late last night trying to defeat my boyfriend in battleship. Every game of battleship that we played, I always lost. I'm not sure if it's him that's good or if I'm just a terrible player.
I drift off into sleep contemplating my battleship strategies. If only I read the directions and not put all of my ships in corners or on the edges.

9 minutes passed..
*alarm sounds again*

"I'm up!" I yelled. I sit up and look at the clock 8:09 AM. Well, great story to my day. I'm late to my zoom work call. My boss is going to be up my ass about me sleeping in. I couldn't help it. My body was telling me to sleep so that's what I did. I've honestly dedicated 5 years of my life working for this company and this last year has been hard since the contagious Infectio Rubra (Scarlett Infection) developed last year. The CDC closes everything and everyone had to work from home. The streets weren't safe unless you wore your PPE.

My boyfriend and I moved into our first house a year ago after we went to a zoom open house. This house has been a dream house for us since we started dating 7 years ago.

I opened up my laptop, and turned it on. Why must my laptop always take so long in the mornings when I'm late? I entered my password and clicked furiously onto the zoom app.
Please confirm your zoom identity.

You have been confirmed.
Who do you want to connect with?
I clicked on my bosses name and choose conference room 12.
"Nice of you to join us Carla." My boss Nancy said with her passive aggressive tone.
"I'm sorry I'm late. It has been crazy around here."
"I'm not accepting any excuses. You are at home and you have no reason why you have to be late."
"I know and I'm sorry. It will not happen again."
"I hope it doesn't, because if it does you will be terminated immediately."
"Understood."

"Let us get back to the financial shares that I started 15 minutes ago. As you see, we have a lot less people getting shares do to the infection going around. Everyone is afraid of not having money to live life. Can someone help put an advertisement out about a double savings that we are offering? I think of people know that they will be able to access their money, they would feel better about purchasing shares into our company."
Gregg said, "Why are we trying to waste our companies money to try to get more people in when nobody answers our ads and phone calls? I think this is just setting us up for a disaster."
Nancy: "We need to be prepared for when they get this infection under control. This will help us stay afloat and be able to help people in the future."
Robbie: "I'll volunteer to create an ad. I can have it done by the end of today. Just give me specifications and color schemes that you have in mind."
Nancy: "Thank you Robbie."
Carla: "Where do we stand with the totals from the law firm that we have been working with? I haven't received any new data and this needs to be done by the end of the week."
Nancy: "Why don't you call and find out. We have other shit on our plates and you are the one responsible for all law firms to present you with documents. Maybe if you were on time to work, you would've heard what I said earlier."
Carla: "I don't need your passive aggressive attitude. All I asked was where we were with it. Honestly, I apologized for being late but that still doesn't give you the license to treat me unfairly just because your having an awful life."
Robbie: "Let's just move on to....."
Nancy: "If you don't like the way I talk to you then bring it up to HR. But I don't have time to babysit you. You were hired to do a job and maybe you should do it."
Carla: "My bad, maybe I'll just leave this meeting and let you all be mad."
I clicked end call and sat there. Since when did Nancy become such a controlling bitch? Like I apologized. No need for this attitude. I logged into my email and caught up on emails from yesterday.
I clicked compose message and clicked HR's email.

Dear HR,
I would like to put in a complaint about my boss Nancy. For the past month or so she has be belittling me and treating me horribly. Every-time I ask about a client she tells me to call them and that she doesn't need to be babysitting me for the job I was hired to do.
I have confronted her today about it and she said that if I don't like the way she is treating me then I should bring it up to HR. I frankly don't know if I want to continue working here if she keeps giving me snarky and passive aggressive remarks.
How can I proceed with this? I'm willing to sign paperwork and report her.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Carla Bates

I clicked send. I hope something is done about this. I'm honestly about to quit. This job isn't worth my time. My small side business is picking up and it is way less stressful than this job. If HR can't help me then I don't know what else I can do but to leave.

*zing*
My instant message went off.
Robbie: "Hey, I'm sorry that Nancy keeps attacking you during every meeting. If you need to talk, I'm all ears."
Me: "Thanks. I honestly am done with this place. I sent an email to HR and I hope that they should be able to help."
Robbie: "She mentioned that if you don't send something to HR, she will personally sue you."
Me: "She can't sue me for nothing. I did nothing wrong. She can try but there is absolutely no evidence in my work for me to be sued."
Robbie: "I know, I was just letting you know. I just don't want you to be surprised."
Me: "Thanks."

*phone buzzes*
Trevor: "Hey babe! I'm doing something special for you tonight. After work, put on the nicest dress you have and get yourself beautified. I'll be home for 6pm. Do not cook dinner, I have everything planned out."
Me: "Babe! I can't wait for tonight! I miss you and love you to the moon and back."
Trevor: "Love you too!"

I put my phone down and got to the kitchen to make my coffee. What kind of coffee do I want? I feel like caramel- hazelnut coffee is perfect for this day. I take the bag of unground coffee and put some into the grinder. I select 3 cups and push start.
*grinding coffee sounds*
I take my coffee brewer and set it up. I wash out the coffee from the coffee pot form this morning and put in a new coffee filter and the fresh coffee grounds. I fill the water up to the 3 cups and push the button to start it.
I walk over to the refrigerator and open it. Caramel coffee creamer would be perfect for this cup. I pour that into my cup and put the cup into the microwave for 15 seconds. Slightly warm creamer brings out the flavor better. As I wait for the coffee to finish brewing, I grab a banana and grapefruit and place it on my plate nice and cut up. Fruit always makes me feel better and it's super healthy.
Coffee finishes brewing. I pour it into my cup and take a sip. Aaahh. I needed this. Nancy brings out the worst in me. I grab my fruit and coffee and bring it into the office. I saw that I had an email from HR.

Dear Carla Bates,
Thank you for informing me about your boss Nancy. We have a couple of different options that we can do. The first one is that we can forget that you submitted the request. The second one is that we can have her sign a written paper that she is only to speak to you with respect and if you ask a question she has to answer it with logic. Plus all meetings will have an HR representative attend. And the last and final option is that you can fill out a harassment and bullying form and we send it to legal. You would not be able to attend any meetings if you do this and someone else from the meeting will have to take notes and send it over to you.
Please let me know what you are thinking.
-HR

That is completely stupid. Why would I choose the first option when clearly she's the one that wants me to quit and lose everything. If I pick option three, then I never have to hear her again.

Dear HR,
I would like to proceed with the third option. This is what I feel would make the situation go away completely and is the only way she can be condemned for the way she talks to people.
Thank you,
Carla Bates

I clicked send. And hoped for the best. Honestly if I get fired, I get fired. No big deal. I finished the rest of my day without a hitch. Contacted the law firm and just waiting on the documents to be scanned in and sent to me. I logged out of my computer and closed it down for the the day.
I looked up at the clock and saw that it said 5pm. Perfect. Just enough time to get ready for this special night. I wonder what Trevor has planned for us.
