Chapter 41 – Disaster

When the imperial edict arrived, both were having their breakfast. Ye Huaiyang was still thinking how to get Chu Jinglan to eat more but was interrupted by the sharp voice of a eunuch. This displeased her very much as Chu Jinglan unexpectedly did not continue his meals but prepared to enter the Imperial Palace immediately, so she followed him back to the room to assist him change his clothes.

The eunuch was still waiting outside yet her actions were not swift. Just buttoning up the black-honed dragon brocade robe took her half a day. Seemingly having lost her soul, she stared blankly at the shining sapphire and didn't even realize several of Chu Jinglan's glances.

"What's wrong?"

Awakened by his deep voice, Ye Huaiyang instantly regained her consciousness and immediately unfurled a smile, "Husband looks so suave in this attire that Qieshen is staring in fascination."

Even the self-address emerged abruptly after more than a month into the marriage when she has never been so subservient before.

Chu Jinglan knew she must be hiding something in her heart, but he didn't point it out. He just glanced at her profoundly then fastened the rest of the buttons himself, ready to headout. Who knew he was stopped by Ye Huaiyang again after only taking a few steps. When he turned around, a pair of pale slender arms wrapped around him immediately.

"Go and return early. I'll wait for you to come back for dinner."

Ye Huaiyang stood on tiptoes to plant a kiss on his face. Her soft tender lips brought out an extremely comfortable sensation. Chu Jinglan stared at her dimples with tiny stars flashing across his eyes. He then turned around and left. Ye Huaiyang watched until his figure completely disappeared at the end of the corridor before the smile on her face completely disappeared.

"Yue'ya, get Ci Yuan to prepare a carriage."

Surprisingly, Yue'ya didn't ask much but turned around to do it. Ci Yuan's actions were also very swift. No sooner had Chu Jinglan barely left in a carriage, Ye Huaiyang was closely behind in another carriage. Although they were not going the same way, the destination, nevertheless, was the same–the Imperial Palace.

Though she wasn't there to receive the imperial edict earlier, she did hear perfectly clear the content when the eunuch read it aloud. Without granting him a troop or even a soldier, the Emperor wanted Chu Jinglan to quell the rebels in Jingzhou. Wasn't this sending him to death? Even if she couldn't stop this, she still had to think of a way to follow him. It would eventually be better than letting him go through the dangers himself. Fortunately, the Empress had given her a token to enter the Imperial Palace last time. Now she could put it to good use to convince the Empress to allow her to go with Chu Jinglan to Jingzhou under the guise of surveillance.

It was just that the Empress is also someone not easy to deal with and it would take some time to dispel her suspicions. Ye Huaiyang's dark eyebrows furrowed deeply as she contemplated and did not speak since she boarded the carriage. But it was strange that Yue'ya, who usually loves to ask questions, also didn't say a word, which made Ye Huaiyang feel somewhat rare.

"Why are you so quiet today and not even asking anymore what I'm going to do in the palace?"

Yue'ya curled her lips and said, "Is there a need to ask? Nine times out of ten are all for Wangye."

"You've learned to be smarter." Ye Huaiyang raised her lips and laughed, but her delicate face was still shrouded with wisp of sorrows, "Pack our stuff when we go back later and ask Ci Yuan to transfer several experts over. Just pack lightly as I'm going to Jingzhou with Wangye."
