1. Going for complete destruction

There’s a saying “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”. For some reason it popped up in my mind quite often - probably because half of my life had been filled with overflowing drama. I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as a drama queen but trouble and annoying people just had a way of finding me. It wasn’t really my fault. I was raised to take care of myself, to not put up with anyone’s shit. Although I’m pretty sure my parents didn’t mean it like this, I have taken up their advice and lived by it. No one will ever, ever walk over me. I won’t let them.

That is what got me in this mess, as well. It’s funny, really, when you think about it. You’d think that two high-school students can’t do that much damage, right? I mean we’re just stupid teenagers. Let’s just say we definitely proved that to be wrong. Two high-school kids who hate each other with a passion can do lots of damage – at least to each other.

“Maddie, are you there?” my best friend, a disturbingly bubbly and positive blonde called Quinn, called out and waved her hand in front of my eyes. I looked at her with a non-amused expression on my face. She took a deep breath, knowing what was coming. “Who was it this time and what did they do?”
“That goddamn Kane just can’t keep to himself”, I hissed. Quinn’s expression changed from dull to shocked in a matter of seconds once her brain processed what I’d just said.
“What? No! Maddie!” she exclaimed. I rolled my eyes – now I knew what was coming. “I don’t care what he did this time and neither should you! You can’t start a war with him.” That wasn’t a question or a suggestion. It was an order. Unfortunately, I was pretty bad at taking orders - especially when I was angry. I shook my head in response.
“I can’t let him get away with this. He completely bashed me in front of an entire class! And I wasn’t even there to defend myself”, I retorted. Quinn sighed in defeat. She knew me well enough to understand that there was no point in trying to talk me out of it. I wanted revenge and I would get it.
“Just make sure the principal doesn’t find out or you’ll both get expelled.”

That was what made things complicated. Ryan and I had been enemies since day one of high-school. We hated each other’s guts and it wasn’t news to anyone. We fought, argued and called each other names daily. We just couldn’t stand each other. Being in the same classroom was a challenge and many times it ended up with one of us – or both – going to the principal’s office. A few days back the head of school had had enough, though. He told us that if we ever got into another showdown in his school grounds, he would expel both of us because of misbehaving. Let’s just say he was done with our shit and honestly, I didn’t blame him. It must be very tiring to deal with teenagers when you’re 60 and ready for retirement. The last thing he needed was two teenagers who couldn’t spend ten minutes in the same room without getting into an argument. But, I would just have to be careful. I knew Ryan had bashed me to those people thinking that I wouldn’t get back to him because of the warning. It was obvious that if anyone was going to get expelled, it would most likely be me over Ryan. I had a worse record. I wasn’t really one to get along with people, especially in my junior year. That was before I met Quinn. After we became best friends she’s helped me stay out of trouble with well, everyone except Ryan.

I spent the rest of the school day planning my revenge. Luckily I didn’t run into the devil himself so I didn’t have to use my energy on fighting the urge to strangle him. Once I got home, I was almost certain that this plan would turn out to be the best one I’ve ever created. But it would require a lot of work as well, which I was not particularly keen about.
“Hi honey”, my mother yelled from the kitchen when I slammed the front door shut. I made my way to her and grabbed an apple from the counter, biting on it.
“Hey”, I mumbled with my mouth full. My mother shot me a disapproving look but didn’t comment on it.
“How was your day? Good I suppose, since I haven’t received a call from the school office, huh?” she asked with a certain tone that told me that she was getting fed up with those calls as well. It wasn’t my fault the office always felt the need to inform my mother every time I got into trouble. They could’ve just spared her from the agony.
“Actually it was fine. I mean I was once again reminded of the assholes that go to my school –“, I said but my mother glared at me with an expression that was not happy so I decided to shut up about that. “- but other than that it was fine. Normal, I guess you could say.” My mom nodded in approval.

Once I got to my room it was evident to me that this revenge would have to be taken care of in the down-low. No one could find out – except for Quinn, of course, since there was no way to keep anything hidden from her. She wouldn’t want to get involved, though, I knew that without asking. She was the type of girl who got along with almost everyone which was odd considering that she was best friends with me. However, she wasn’t one to piss anyone off and she definitely wasn’t one to disobey and challenge the principal’s words.
As I took my laptop and went online, I was feeling a little excited. I couldn’t wait to see Ryan’s smug face after he’d realize that I won because that’s exactly what I was going for; ultimate victory. I was going for full destruction. I was going to bring Ryan’s reputation down for good, making his life miserable. It was only fair considering that’s what he’s been doing ever since we made saw each other.

Hours later I was still sitting on the same spot on my bed with my laptop in front of me. My crazy plan for Ryan’s destruction was failing miserably. My intentions were to dig up all the dirt on that guy but so far I’d come up empty handed. His record seemed to be clean. I wasn’t just going to give up, though. He may have been able to keep his dirty secrets off from the Internet but I knew he still had some. This just meant I had to work a little harder to find them out.

I was more motivated than ever. I’m pretty sure if I put that much energy and thought into homework as I did to planning my revenge, I would be a valedictorian. School was never my thing, though. I was fine with just graduating with semi-good grades. I mean they’d still get me to some college. As long as that college was far away from Ryan ‘the douche’ Kane, it would be perfect for me.

So I know there wasn't really a lot of action in the first chapter but it gets better I promise. But anyway, let me know what you think!

Also, that's a picture of Madilyn, if you were wondering. :)
