Chapter 1 - Hogwarts Express and first impressions

Start from the beginning

"Kreacher has taken miss belongings to the train. Miss should settle in before the train departs, it is almost eleven. Kreacher bids farewell to the Miss and a safe and fulfilling school year." The old house-elf bowed respectfully to her.

Betelgeuse could not contain her excitement and did something that surprised the elf. She kneeled and embraced the unprepared elf.

"I will miss you Kreacher," with that, she headed to the train leaving a gobsmacked and slightly emotional elf.

She roamed around the train searching for an empty compartment where she could spend her journey reading A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot with the silent company of her orange-eyed Eagle Owl.

About one hour after the departure, she was bored out of her mind with the book, and she found herself watching the passing sceneries.

All of a sudden the door's compartment burst open. Two red-haired boys appeared on the threshold.

Twins.

Betelgeuse regarded them with a neutral, if not bored, expression, waiting for them to say something. They smiled nervously at her.

"Hello there! Mind if we join you?" Began the one on the left.

"All the other compartments seem rather crowded," continued the other on the right.

"Not at all," Betelgeuse responded with a polite tone, watching the two sit in front of her.

It has been at least a full minute, and they had not uttered a single word to me. If they do not stop staring, I will snap.

"Are you first-years, too?" Betelgeuse inquired.

"Yes!" They chorused. "I'm George Weasley," said the boy on the left, "and this is my twin —,"

"— Fred Weasley," continued the other on the right.

"Nice to meet you," they concluded at the same time.

"I am Betelgeuse Altair Black, nice to make your acquaintance," she replied as she raised her hand for the boys to shake.

The twins' eyes widened after hearing her surname.

He had warned me that this would have happened.

She was about to withdraw her hand when at once the twins grasped and shook it. Their behaviour baffled the young Black.

George grinned at her. "Reckon we could work with that, Freddie?" He asked, turning to his twin.

"Suppose we could, Georgie," his twin replied with a matching grin. "Now that's settled, what kind of humungous bird is that?!" Fred asked with a face that made his twin snicker.

"An Eagle Owl," Betelgeuse informed the boys. "He comes from the woodland region of Norway. He is in my possession since I can remember. Quite the looker, is he not?" She added, stroking the plumage of the large owl fondly.

"What's his name?" Fred asked with curiosity.

"Castor."

"Unusual name," George commented, raising an eyebrow in question.

Betelgeuse hummed. "I suppose yes. Castor and Pollux were twin half-brothers in Greek and Roman mythology, known together as the Dioscuri. Pollux was given the choice of spending all his time on Mount Olympus or share his immortality with his mortal brother. He opted for the latter and with his brother became the two brightest stars in the constellation Gemini. Castor and Pollux".
