Byakuya Togami is a rather reserved man, all his life he has turned away romance, friendships, and even his own family. That's just how he was raised. How could he run the Togami corporation with emotions and relationships holding him down?! The only relationships he needs are business relationships, and the relationship with the woman he will have children with. Will he love her? Probably not. His dad never loved his mom, his grandpa never loved his grandma, and so on.
He doesn't know why he chose theater as his club in fifth grade, he could have done something that would help him get into collage, or get a job, but he chose theater. He absolutely loved it, he loved the spotlight, he loved perfecting the characters he plays, he loved being someone else for a change. On stage, he was... allowed to feel. In fact, it was encouraged! You feel the character's happiness, despair, love- everything. Even if it's not as intense.
Now, here he was now. Opening night of his first big show, Despair City. A musical about the journey of a group of friends trying to survive in a destroyed city. As the hot, bright spotlight shone on him, he began his opening number.

"You did great, everyone!" Aoi Asihina said as they walked off the stage after their final bow. Aoi had always been very cheerful and supportive, and even though she was just an ensemble member, she made the show just that much better. "Some of us didn't" Celestia grumbled. She had almost fallen off of stage during the ending song, thankfully Kyoko caught her, though.
"Oh, c'mon Celeste, don't beat yourself up. It was our first night!" Makoto said, putting his hand on her shoulder. Byakuya smiled slightly at the boy. He loved how Makoto was right there to cheer his friends up. Him and Aoi are probably the reason the whole cast hasn't clawed each other's eyes out, honestly.
Even though they all love each other, they tend to fight quite often. That's just life when you spend almost every day with them. "Oooh, did Byakuya just smile???" Junko teased, shaking his shoulders around.
Byakuya gave her an annoyed look and brushed her hands off. "No, you imbecile. Maybe you should get your eyes checked." He said coldly, glaring at the grey eyed girl. "Be nice, Kuya!" Makoto scolded. Byakuya mentally panicked, he knew he was going to blush at the nickname, or smile, or SOMETHING! He just calmly stood up, walking to his dressing room. Nobody paid any attention to it, that's just Byakuya Togami. Cold, reserved, rude.
Byakuya sat down at his mirror, grabbing his makeup remover wipes. As he put the cold wipe on his cheek, he couldn't seem to shake the thought of Makoto out of his mind. He even smiled again! Nope, nope, nope.
Makoto is just another commoner in a play. He's just like the others.
Then- why does he feel so special?
The second Makoto walked into the first rehearsal, Byakuya felt... Different. He wanted to become friends with him, he wanted to have a fun conversation with him, he wanted to hang out with him- What spell has the boy put on Byakuya?! Byakuya had never "felt" for someone before. He only felt for the characters he plays. And- Makoto was so average! Why is it him?!
Byakuya threw his makeup wipe on the table, and ran his fingers though his blonde hair. No. He will be the face of the Togami corporation one day. Makoto will weigh him down.
The blonde boy stood up and started to take off his costume and hang it on the rack, ready for tommorow's performance. After that, he just put on a hoodie and jeans that he had brought. Usually, he'd be in his best suit, but he was going straight home after this, so it didn't really matter.

"Wait, Kuya!" Makoto stopped Byakya as he was walking out of the building. "What is it, commoner?" Byakuya responded, trying to sound as annoyed as possible. When in reality, he wanted nothing more than to talk to the boy.
"I uh--- just wanted to say you did really good tonight! You hit your notes nice, and-" Makoto said, before being cut off by Byakuya. "Thank you, I guess. You did... decent. Your footwork has improved, I suppose." Byakuya gave Makoto a soft, but cold stare before pushing on the glass doors to leave.
Makoto smiled. He had never heard Byakuya compliment anyone before. Maybe- Theater was helping Byakuya with whatever he had going on in his life.
The lucky boy walked out of the theater, the cold New York winter air hitting him as soon as he stepped outside. He put his earbuds in and walked the sidewalk, softly humming along to his song.
"I'm mr.loverman... and I miss my lover, man..." he quietly sang along, smiling. Makoto absolutely loved music, ever since he was a baby, he's always been singing and dancing around the house, and making instruments with everything he could find. Music for him was so magical, so special. It can make you go through a wave of emotions in just one song.
That's mostly why he started acting. He could sing, he could write music, he could be a part of people's favorite songs. He can make people feel about music just like he does. He's just an ordinary college student, but yet he was able to make such a difference in people's lives with his music. That's what keeps him going.
