Chapter One -Prince Eiki

"Come jump with me Eiki" he whispers in my ear... I hesitate but he goes ahead of me and leaps into the water. I watch my friend fall, fall, fall and .... splash...he doesn't come up " KILLIAN! KILLIAN! " I run down the side of the cliff screaming for him...he does not emerge. Crying i run back to the kingdom, but no matter how much I run it gets further and further away. I scream as my young legs cannot run any further, everything goes black and I .... awake. it has been 11 years and I still have that nightmare of the time I lost him my old childhood friend. I do not think I will ever stop looking out my window and cursing the cruel sea for taking him from me. Its morning I know I should be eating by now so i get dressed and rush down. My father sits at the table glaring " Eiki you should have been here twenty minutes ago" I sit at the table "I am aware father and I apologise but I slept in ". The servants ready my meal and I stuff my face piggishly "what's on the agenda today? " my father scoffs at me " eat like a prince if you want me to reply " I tidy up my manners, he seems more on edge today. My father looks at me " You must choose a suiter"

"Oh, father not this again, I can run the country myself! Most kingdoms would love to have a male heir such as I"

" Oh, would they now? A lazy clumsy mess who has set the town a flame multiple times?"

" Three times and none of them were my fault I swear! The place is a death trap!"

"None the less I need you to find someone, may it be to look after you when I'm gone or just to form a treaty between kingdoms, like your mother and me. We turned out great and I am sure she would want you to settle down too. You are twenty-one years old you need to start preparing for the future."

"Fine I will think about it"

I clean my plate and stand up. "That's an actual I will think about it?" My father asks. "yes, I promise I will think about it" I slump out towards the door. "Good, keep safe today and no mischief!"

"I know "

I leave the castle and head towards town; my father means well but he is so badgering like every good parent. The guards great me and offer me a ride to town but as I do often, I decline because I like the walk better. I hold my bag close to my side and walk down the path towards my future kingdom.

"Ow" I walked into something?? No..someone... " sorry sir I don't know where my head was ..I will pay more attention " I bow in respect

"Oh, don't worry about it, young prince. It was nothing! "

I look up to the person speaking, I have not seen him around the town. Is he new? No. He knew who I was I just must be off today. His eyes are so blue and enchanting, wow. I kind of lose my composure for a moment. oh no I forgot what he said ...how do I reply? "Well, I am glad it was nothing bad! I'll be off! See you at the festival! "

"Of course, I would not miss it" he smiles, and I watch as he leaves....is there sploshing coming from his shoes? No, it is probably the ...dry mud ...oh right! The town! I start back on my journey. When I reach town, I have my eyes covered from behind "Guess who?"

The sarcastic tone with the last comment of course cones from my good friend Toki. He uncovers my eyes "So what's Mr king up to today?"

"Back on the topic of marriage...he thinks I can't handle myself"

"Uhm...he is right. You can't "

"Wow so supportive, how could I ask for a better friend?"

"You couldn't I am pretty much perfect"

I laugh his confidence exceeds mine, which is good, but he is still very sweet even if he likes to play tough.

We both look silently for a moment and laugh.
