I stared at my shaky hands. They've been this way ever since the accident. I held them together trying to compose myself. Ava hasn't woken up yet
I listened to the sound from the heart rate monitor and the distant noise down the hospital hall
I watched her look so peaceful as she slept. The doctors said she would be awake anytime
I haven't had my bath God knows I'm not moving an inch till Ava wakes up
I dried my eyes quickly when the door opened
I watched my childhood friend as he walked in casually. Dr Raphael Louis his tag read
I smiled weakly. He stopped walking as he stood besides me
"How are you holding up"
I looked at my hands intertwined
"I don't know"
"I'm trying not to think about it"
I sniffled
"I understand" he placed his hands on my shoulder
I just lost the love of my life, mother of my kids. My best friend, my world.
What do i do. Can I do this all by myself
It's a miracle we survived
"You know.." he started but then we heard soft groans
"Mum"
Both our attentions snapped towards Ava
She was sweating
Raphael moved to check her vitals
I stood abruptly
"Mum" she muttered with her eyes squeezed shut
She struggled on the bed
The heart rate monitor was beeping loudly and fast
What's going on
"What's going on?" I asked as I pressed forward
Raphael didn't reply
The Nurses bursts into the room
I watched them
"Sir you need to leave" the younger nurse said
I stood my ground not moving an inch
She must be delusional if she thinks I'm going anywhere
"Let him stay"
Raphael said
I tried not to panic as i watched them flood the room
I watched till she was stable. Her eyes remained shut
"She'll be fine" he said approaching me
"She's still in shock"
I nodded
"She might need therapy when she finally wakes up"
He pat my back
I stared at the ground as he exited the room slowly
"you need to let her rest for a while" the same nurse said showing me the door
"How is my presence going to prevent that" i said annoyed
"The patient needs a lot of rest"
