Dear readers, this has been the most heartbreaking chapter for me to write. Wei Ying's pain is not only agonizing for him but for me as well. I hope I conveyed that pain to you. Not that I want to make you cry, but I know we have all felt his pain whether in the novel, series, or donghua. Please don't hate me. I promise things will get better. Keep reading and let me know your thoughts and feeling about this difficult chapter.

Also, I'm doing final edits on this late at night for me so if you find any spelling or grammatical errors, I apologize. I just wanted to get this chapter done and move on to more exciting updates! Thank you everyone for your support! Love to all!

Wei Ying felt as if he was walking through waist deep mud as he trudged through the woods, away from......him. He never looked back, he never stopped moving, and his tears never stopped flowing. Sometimes they fell quickly, sometimes they burned, but they were always there. His heart felt like grains of sand that were being scattered by the wind, never to be whole again. His pain was crippling.

He travelled at night, the sunlight too blinding for his tired eyes. Occasionally there were puppets that would be attracted to his despair but he could usually avoid them or get rid of them with a only a few notes from Chenquin. But, as the nights passed, his strength weakened more. He didn't eat much, he drank very little, and he slept even less. Every time he closed his eyes his mind was haunted with visions of Wang Xian, his golden eyes accusing him of leaving him behind, of not loving him. Wei Ying's screams went unheard in the wilderness and no one came to soothe him.

He had no idea or clear thought as to where he was going, he just knew it had to be away. His heart demanded that it must be a bad dream, that if he returned to Cloud Recesses, his Lan Zhan would be waiting for him with open arms and hold him tighter than he ever had before.

But Wei Ying knew it was not a dream and that Lan Zhan was now Wang Xian. He had no memory of his home, his family, or Wei Ying. But he was happy. Wei Ying saw Wang Xian's big smile in his memories and knew what he was doing was the right thing. Lan Zhan had sacrificed so much for Wei Ying it was now time for Wei Ying to pay back his debt. Wei Ying tried to find comfort in that thought but his heart was selfish and didn't want to let him go. So, he just kept walking.

After weeks of travel, Wei Ying found that his legs had indeed led him back to Cloud Recesses. His heavy head looked up at the familiar buildings in the clouds and his body sighed in relief. He entered through the back mountain and slowly stumbled until he heard a familiar voice. A voice that he loved. A voice that would only remind Wei Ying of.......him. But he moved towards it nonetheless seeking to be consoled.

"Senior Wei!!" Lan SiZhui yelled.

Wei Ying only heard the quick approach of running feet, his eyes were already closing as he felt his body fall into the strong arms of his son.

"Senior Wei! Senior Wei!" Lan SiZhui yelled over and over again. He could feel that Wei Ying had a fever through his robes which meant he was burning up from the inside. The robes could also not hide the fact that Wei Ying's body was half the size it was when he left.

Lan SiZhui's mind went into a panic as he lifted Wei Ying into his arms and started heading for the Jingshi while yelling for Lan Xichen.

Wei Ying looked up at SiZhui's distraught face. In no more than a whisper, he said, "I'm back." before he was consumed by darkness.
