August

Since there wasn't nothing ta' do, I started ta' write a few songs. I had a few songs written up but they weren't finished yet.

Mama said stay out of trouble

Mama said don't be a fool

Mama said stay in somebody's church

Mama said boy stay in school

Mama told me I better get home, before the street lights come on

Mama always use to cry when I left her

Maybe cause daddy was gone

I still remember the lessons my mama taught me

But now it's my turn to show you how far they brought me

I'm not gone lie, I miss being back home already. I ain't talk ta' my mama since Christmas.

She don't even kno' Leah and I moved outchea. Speakin' of my mama, her name popped up on my caller I.D. As soon as I hit answer, all I heard was her yelling.

"August Anthony Alsina have yuh lost ya damn mind boy!?"

"Hello to ya too mama." She sucked her teeth.

"I kno' yo scrawny ass did not leave Nawlinz and ain't say goodbye ta' me!" I busted out laughin'.

My mama's accent get stronger when she pissed off. I'ca neva take her seriously when she yelled at me.

"My bad mama, stop yel-"

"Boy shut up. Don't chu' dare start talkin' when I'm talkin'. I done taught yo ass betta' than dat didn't I?" I mumbled under my breathe and fixed my snapback.

"Yes ma'am ya did bu-"

"But nothing. Shut up like I'a said. Jus' cause yo ass is grown don't mean I won't beat cha' ass understand? Now you done made me lose my train of thought."

"I'm sorry mama, I kno' what'll make you feel betta tho." She sighed.

"What boy? What?"

"I'm movin' you, Cha and tha' girls up here in two weeks. I tried ta' have all of us move outchea ta'getha but it ain't happen like dat. I apologize fa' not tellin' you sooner. I've been busy wit' Leah and tha' baybeh and-"

"Baybeh!? August yall have kids and ain't tell me?" I cussed unda my breathe.

"She pregnant ma. It was 'posed to be a surprise. We planned on tellin' everybody when yall came outchea."

"My baybeh boy is growin' up. I still barely kno' her August." I sighed.

"I'll arrange sumn when yall come outchea a'ight?"

"You better. I'a gotta go ta' work so I'll call you when I'm on break hea?" I nodded.

"A'ight mama."

"Luh you."

"Luh ya more."

My mama is a mess I swea'. I do feel a lah bad cause we ain't spoke since Christmas. When she come outchea we finna chop it up like old times and get shit poppin' ya heard me?

Ion't wanna hold no grudges against her or nun. She apologized ta' me and dats mo' than enough. She tha' only parent I got left and I'll be damned ta' lose her too.

As you get olda' you realize dat, the people who 'posed ta' be rockin' witchu, won't be there inna end. People finna come and go outcha life and people who are here ta' stay won't be goin' no where.
