“Well, it’s the big day,” Riker says placing your graduation cap on your head.

“Yeah,” you say while breathing deeply, “it’s graduation day.”

“Oh well it’s that too,” he says quickly and under his breath.

“Wait what?” you say in a confused manner, but then decide to forget whatever Riker is talking about. “Whatever, ugh where is Ross?” You check your phone for any texts or calls from your boyfriend of 6 years but see nothing.

“Y/N, calm down,” Riker says, grabbing your shoulders so you face him, “Ross promised he would be here to see you graduate college and he will be. He just had some stuff to deal with back in LA, he will be here any minute.”

He gives you a reassuring smile and you give him a hug, “Thanks, Riker,” you say pulling away from the hug, “now I have to go or I’ll miss my own graduation.”

You run out and as you are running you hear Riker behind you, “Good luck! Don’t trip!” You roll your eyes and continue on, ready to walk across that stage.

About halfway through graduation you look to the audience and still don’t see Ross, and that’s when it’s almost time for your name to be called. You wait anxiously as people in front of you walk one by one, glancing back and forth between the stage and the crowd. The person right in front of you goes and that’s when you see a discombobulated and flustered Ross running into the venue. You take a deep breath and smile at him when he gives you a wave and a smooth wink and then it’s time to do your thing.

After everyone has walked and gotten their diplomas it’s time for the ‘end of graduaton socializing’. The lovely time of the day where you get to talk to literally every person you have ever met and act like you remember their names.

You talk to your family a bit and then hug a few friends when you spot the Lynch family walking towards you, more specifically you notice Ross. You immediately run and jump in his arms, holding him tight as he spins you around. He sets you down and you two share a quick kiss, “You made it!” you squeal and hug him tightly again.

He laughs, “I told you I would. You think I’d lie to you?”

You shrug and continue, “What took you so long, I nearly had a heart attack waiting for you to show up!”

“I know, I left something back at the house and had to go all the way back after driving to the airport,” he explains, “a lot of complications happened today but I would have gone into the cockpit and flew that plane myself if it meant getting to see you today.”

“Awe babe,” you gush, “but what did you leave at home that was so important?” He takes a small step back and then reaches in his pocket.

“Well,” he starts and pulls out a small black velvet box and you lose your breath, “I almost left this.” He opens the box to reveal a beautiful gold ring topped with a shining diamond. “And I figured that this moment wouldn’t really be the same without it.”

“Ross…” you whisper, hardly breathing with tears in your eyes.

“Y/N, I have waited a whole 2 years for this. I have been crazy in love with you since the first time we met and I know for a fact that there is no one I would rather spend my life with. You said you wanted to wait until you graduated college to do this and I, very impatiently, respected that. So here I am, disheveled with my hair in a mess, asking you to now spend the rest of your life with me. Y/N, will you please make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”

By the end of his speech tears were streaming down your face and you couldn’t say yes fast enough. He puts the ring on your finger, silently thanking God that it fit, and lifts you off of the ground, hugging you tighter than he ever has before.

As soon as he sets you down you cup his face in your hands and kiss him with all the love and passion you have in you. There is a loud sound of claps but you can’t focus on all the people around you. You can only focus on the incredibly perfect man that you are about to spend eternity with.
